bag less entry?

Hello, fellow DL enthusiasts! I'm doing some research - I remember that years ago (I think it was 2008) Disneyland experimented with bag less entry, like they do at Walt Disney World.

I have not seen it since. Does anyone know what the results of this test was? Did anyone go to the parks when this test was going on? Has anyone experienced bag less entry since?

Thanks - want to make sure I have my facts straight!

They don't have it and haven't had it since that brief test.

We almost always enter the park bag less and we are usually ushered past security.

CMs seem to appreciate it.

I love the freedom of entering the park with nothing but my id, ticket, Photopass card and room key. I don't even bring my phone!

The results were - Most people at Disneyland are unable to know if they are bagless.

Every so often, when lines are really long at bag check, they will open a tent announcing "For those who are bagless"... Examples of people I have seen...

1. Gentleman who is bagless. Woman with him with a huge purse. They approach and Security informs them only those without bags ay use this line. "But he doesn't have a bag, and I am with him."

2. Woman with 2 preteens and a stroller. Stroller is carrying an ice chest, diaper bag, and blankets under it. (No child seen.) They approach, "But they aren't bags".

3. Woman with wristlet "But it is just a little bag."

I forget all the rest. It was the span of maybe 10 mins waiting in the regular line, beside the bagless tent. I was bagless, my kids weren't. But I was having fun watching everyone trying to cheat.

No bagless entry, but I go to Disney with a wristlet and they normally don't check what's inside it. I wait in line as if I have a bag, but when I get to the front, the CM just waves me through.

HTH,
Kriss pirate:

I watched a lady try to bypass the line recently (long lines during Holiday time). But she wasn't very nice about it. She pretty much pushed people aside and then got up to the front and tried to walk past the security person saying she didn't have any bags. The security person would not let her pass and asked her to go to the back of the line.

Even with something as small as a wristlet or fanny pack, I have never been waved through without any check. However, what helps speed things up a lot is to have my jacket open and my bag (however small) open before I get to the CM at the check point. CMs usually smile appreciatively, take a quick peek, then let me through. Speeds things up quite a bit.

I wish they had a bagless entry, as I rarely have a bag.

What I hate is the inconsistency. Some CMs barely check your bags, while others check EVERY SINGLE POCKET, even when there is clearly nothing in there.

On another occasion, I had no bags, but I was asked if I had anything in my pockets. The CM hadn't asked any other guest coming through if they did, but for some reason I was asked - guess I was being profiled. I was FURIOUS. I went to Guest Relations to complain, but I doubt anything was done about it.

Sometimes I've been asked if there was anything in the front pocket of my hoodie or to open a large jacket if it's zipped. Maybe it's the way the pocket is dropping looks like something is weighing me down, maybe I was profiled. I don't care. A delay of 2 minutes for bag check or 12 seconds to ask me to open my jacket doesn't phase me.

But I do try to pick the line where a family doesn't have a stroller with 3 coolers or each parents has a giant backpack and 2 kids to wrangle. I'm not sure I get through much faster, but it sure feels less frustrating not to have to watch the CMs check all that stuff.

The mere fact that I was asked wasn't what upset me.

It's that ONLY I was asked.

I was wearing jeans and a tshirt and only had my regularly shaped rectangular wallet in my pocket and an iPhone in my other pocket. I didn't have a large jacket or anything. It probably wouldn't have phased me if everyone else in front of me or in the other lines were asked the same questions, but that wasn't the case, and I was singled out. I have never seen anyone else asked about what's in their pockets. They were less rigorous about the lady with the stroller in front of me.

No matter what I do, I feel like I end up picking the slowest line :rotfl:

We actually asked a CM where it was on our last trip because we're so used to WDW having one. It was probably the first time ever that we didn't have bags as we had just packed it into the van and we're hitting the park for just a few hours.

It's usually pretty fast and painless, though. I just make sure everything is open on my backpack and on the toddler bag in the stroller. We usually zip right through outside of the one-CM-per-trip who thinks he's Magnum P.U. and checks every little thing including sweater pockets and such. But I guess I can feel a little safer that way.
