Bag Checks

Just returned from a week at WDW. I noticed that they are just giving quick glances at the bags now. We left Epcot last Sunday and I was approached for a survey. One of the questions was do I think bag checks are necessary. Another question was do you think they should continue the bag checks, do random bag checks or no checks at all. I said no checks at all. I think they are pretty worthless, if someone wanted to get something into the park all they have to do is put it under a jacket or in their pocket and they walk right in.

I think they should continue to do the bag checks, but do a better job at them. I agree someone could still sneak something in under their clothes but most people going into Disney are half naked anyway!!!

I like the bag checks. I have also seen them ask someone to take off a jacket/sweter before.

I think the bag checks need to be more secure. Right now they're kind of silly. Anyone can just hide something under their coat or shirt. That's just my opinion. :D

I think the bag checks should certainly continue. It only takes a few moments and it certainly makes you feel more secure whilst in the parks.

Slightly off-topic, but are they even doing gate-side random carry-on bag checks in airports anymore? I flew from Detroit to Atlanta round-trip, and neither airport had any evidence of the random searches that had been going on since 9/11.

Well, when my Fiance & I went, the first time we went into EPCOT, they just skimmed over her backpack... But when we went to the Magic Kingdom, she took her purse, and they searched through every pocket, zipper & opening they found... I guess it's just random:rolleyes:

actually i am surprised that disney hasn't gotten metal detectors yet. we have been to 6 flags and they have them there. i think it is a good idea because right now anyone can sneak anything in they wanted.

I think they should continue with the bag checks. I was more then happy to show them what I had in my bag. made me feel safer that they were checking everyones bags.

I think the problem is it gives people a false sense of security. Now maybe I look angelic:smooth: but I had a large backpack with me each day and only once did they ask me to remove things to see to the bottom. I could have had had anything and everything illegal in there.

I don't mind waiting (which some days was 2 minutes and one day 15 minutes) and would welcome a check if the security check is real. For what they did, they might as well not have done anything.

Since TSA took over airport security, all checks are done at the main security area, not at the gate. They aren't even checking ID anymore at the gate.

I agree with Sandy, I do not feel more secure at the parks with the system they have. Not when they allow someone with no bags to bypass the security. I did notice more uniformed security walking around the parks. One even busted a smoker by the safari entrance at AK, most cm's overlook it.

Heh, well, when I went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal last year they DID have metal detectors.... well, it took an extra 45 minutes to GET to the detector, only to have the thing go off on me about 5 times b/c a gum wrapper was stuck in my pocket. I had about 1-200+ people pushing & shoving me to get through... I really don't think metal detectors would be a hot idea...

I don't think it does much good, either. They should go full-blown with airport-style metal detectors and searches of everyone (CMs too), or give it up.

The survey makes me suspect that Disney realizes this as well, but they want to see if it makes people "feel safer" even though it doesn't actually make them safer.

I don't mind the bag check even though I think it's a little pointless like the rest of you. I have thought they should do some sort of check for vehicles coming into the main drive, actually. That would make me feel a little better too. I mean, anybody can go into the resort area.

But it really makes me sad that anything has to be done. Our first visit after 9/ll when I was "bag checked" for the first time, it brought a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes that Disney had to do this.:(
