Bag Check! Ive had enough of it.

The school I work at does a better security check than Disney does! They pat the kids down from head to toe, and have them empty their pockets. They occasionally have them remove their shoes and run their fingers over the bottom of their socks.. they also periodically have the Deputy's bring the metal wand for them to scan the kids with..they are not allowed to bring bags into school at all! This is a High School.. not a theme park.

Disney looks in your bag with a poker stick.. some will ask you to open items in your bag, some will not. I was stopped without a bag going thru the line for no bags and asked what was in my pockets... it was a slim camera, and my eyeglass case... but in the bag line, they have never asked me to open my eyeglass case so go figure

What school do you work at?

I work at a school that is an "Alternative" school. It is where the students go when they are kicked out of their normal school for various reasons, some being that they have criminal charges against them, some for school violations. They remain there for a period of time then earn their way back to their normal school, unless it was a criminal case, then they stay there till it is over. I have to say, I think it is one of the safest schools to work at with what they have to deal with just getting into the bldg.. not to mention we do have deputy's that are on campus at all times too... I would much rather be where I am than another high school!

I can understand that they need to check bags, even if its just a cursory check, but I never fail to get behind someone with several jam packed bags who then has to pull more bags out from under their stroller. I wish they had a "1 bag" line kind of like the grocery store since I carry one tiny (maybe 6 in. by 6 in.) bag that they glance in for a second.

We are those people that bring everything into the park but we are pretty good at getting through quickly now

I think at Disneyland Paris they have a metal detector.

I've even had them check my Vera Bradley ID case, which was on a lanyard around my neck. Only things in it were a little bit of cash, my kttw, and Chapstick. I thought it was odd, but not bothered by it.

The second was a person with a swiss army knife in the bag. Most likely harmless as I am sure a lot of people carry them, but better safe than sorry.

Are swiss army knives not allowed? I have a small one that I usually carry in my purse, but if they're not allowed, I'll be sure to leave it in the room.

The security lines and ticket entrances at EPCOT are always more crowded on the right entrance to the park as the monorail and Disney buses feed to this gate. Do yourself a favor and walk a few feet farther to the left side entrance. I have never seen it busy and the left side ticket takers usually have a much shorter line too. It is a win - win situation for just a few extra steps.

I then competed in the Wine and Dine Marathon this weekend. After running for two hours I just wanted to get into Epcot and relax. Instead I was forced to wait in a long line to go through bag check. Really what could someone who just ran 13.1 miles and is exhausted possibly bring into the parks???

I am confused as to why anyone--including those "exhausted" for any one of a multitude of reasons--would feel entitled in the least bit for special consideration at WDW security, in any instance? Granting runners unfettered access would only be the beginning of a very long list.

Bag check is a waste of time. Do they find firearms or alcohol? Yup. I carried a rather large backpack that I took with me on deployment and I could have gotten a firearm or two and as much ammunition as I cared to bring in with me. There were 2-3 areas that none of the bag searchers in any of the parks checked.

On a humorous note, I carry some parachute cord with me and twice, at MK and EP, the bag searchers found it and questioned me about why I had it. Guess they thought I might use it as a garote or something. They put it back in and let me go on.

That would be my Mum But, I can tell you why she does it, she is of a different generation. A generation that worked on the being prepared for all situations.

Have you cut yourself? Its ok, Mum has band-aids, antibiotic cream

Ow, shoes are rubbing. Mum has moleskin.
Wow, I wasn't expecting it to rain! Yay! Mum has teeny tiny packages for everyone that when unfolded, are ponchos!
Ugh, sick of drinking plain water! Thats ok, Mum has sachets of water flavourings.
Nasty taste in my mouth and Disney doesn't sell gum. Mum has some!
Just eaten, need a toothpick. MUM!
Almost time for dinner but blood sugar level is dropping. Mum has a couple of packs of crackers & a tube of glucose tablets.
Pen isn't working. Mum has several.
Nothing better than a glow stick in MK at night. Mum has pack! YAY!

And thats along with her usual money purse, camera, cards & phone plus I'm sure she has other stuff that I don't know about

Somewhat amusing/annoying bag check story. We were waiting to get into the MK and there were some of the longest bag check lines I had ever seen. We ended up in the line of a nice, incredibly chatty woman. She would go thru everyone's bag slowly, take items out, comment on them, make jokes about little girls with big shoes. Which is lovely, I'm glad she enjoyed talking to the people and was having a good time. But if your line has 15+ people in it waiting to get in, it is probably not a great thing to have a 5 minute chat with each guest about what she finds in their bags.

This happened to us too! Except it was a man at MK. I said to dh, i guess I picked the wrong line this time! Chatty Charlie over here! But we just shook our heads and waited.

I agree it seems as though bag check is useless, considering most of them just glance inside the bag so something can still be brought in. However, in this day and age, I don't think the answer is eliminating the bag check. Even though it would likely cause a larger back up, I am surprised they don't have x-ray machines people can throw their bags on. No metal detectors necessary. I just went to an NFL game and, as a woman, got a full pat down and had my bag searched. Happened to everyone, even kids. So I guess it could be worse.

We went to Glee Live last summer and the same thing...full pat down and all bags searched. They also had the metal detector wand thing.

I was asked what was in my inner jacket pocket last week when I went through the no-bag line. I pulled it out so he could see that there wasn't anything in it, and I was fine. My cargo pants had full pockets, and the outer pockets of my jacket also had items (mostly the deck of 100+ SotMK cards), but it was the particular line of distortion that they were looking for.

I've seen them eyeing how things in my pockets shift as I walk toward the no bag line, but that was the only time I've been asked about something.

I think everything is available very easily in the park, so avoid carrying luggage to enjoy the amazing experience without any hassles. I did that when I visited with my cousins.

not everything.. prescription's are not nor are prescription eyeglasses. I don't always wear my glasses. Need them for reading, not distance...

It can be embarrassing. Last June I had my bag full of feminine products. The guard quickly gave the bag back to me.

While I appreciate the need to keep the parks safe, I have to admit, I get annoyed when they make me open the credit card sized front pocket on my fanny pack. Really, WHAT sinister item could I be hiding in there? And if I did have something dangerous in there, wouldn't I put it in my pocket and not in a bag thats being checked?

My biggest complaint about this though was the time at AK a man, a few people before me in line had a knife on him. They pulled him aside and made him wait for a manager. Instead of continuing on with the rest of the line, the bag check person stood there talking to him while the rest of us waited. Once the manager finally came over he looked the knife up and down and told him he was ok to go in with the knife.
