Bad Week

Hi guys...

I am kinda sad today. I was in a car wreck on Monday. I was sitting at a red light, when this older man rear ends my car at 45mph. He never stopped, and we did not see it coming. My car was pushed into a car which was pushed into another car ( 4 car wreck ) My dd is fine ( thank you GOD ) She has bruises on her chest and waist from her booster seat. I was taken to the E.R. My seat belt did not lock ( foot was on the break already ) and I was thrown into the dash and steering wheel. My car is most likely a total loss, and the guy who hit me had min coverage 25/50/10. So, my underinsured motorist is picking up the tab. My back and left knee is hurt. I went to my family Dr this am and I will have to use a Cane, and 3 RX's for several months. I told the Dr about our trip, and he said if I was his age ( 50's ) he would suggest I skip the trip. He said I should be ok, but I may want to sit out a few trips to the parks....

What am I going to do? I want to go so bad.... How does a person get the EMV's? Do I need a Dr's note to get one at the parks? What is the rental on them, and is the price per day or per park?

OM! I'm SO SORRY! The same thing happened to my best friend the week before 4th of July and we were traveling up to see them already.

So sorry about your car accident. Glad you and your DD are alright. Prayers that you recover and get to enjoy your trip. Some people just don't know how to drive around here . I'm not sure about the EMV. Just wanted to let you know we were thinkng of you.

My DH used one when we were there in May - just rent one at the same place you rent strollers - it was great for DH (has trouble with walking/standing for long periods)..I hope you recover quickly - but use the EMV, it will make your trip so much easier for you and everyone!!!!

One word of advice, not sure if you were planning on replacing your child carseat but be sure you do, they are only 'good' for one collision, and stress fractures naked to the eye make them very unsafe once through an accident.

Oh so sorry you were in an accident. I'm glad your dd was ok and hopefully all your injuries will be very! temporary as well.

You don't need a dr's note to rent ECV's or wheelchairs. My mother rented one on her last trip and she didn't require anything more than ID (I think) and a credit card.

Just thought I would mention, if you want to you can rent from outside the parks. The Passporter book recommends a couple of different offsite medical eqmt rental companies: Caremedicalequipment.com and WalkerMobility.com. If you have the '06 Passporter it's mentioned (with a picture of Jennifer on one) on pg 34. These are 24-hr rentals and they deliver.

OMG, how scary! It sounds to me like you could use a happy vacation, so I think you should go. I think the ECV is a good idea. There are places you can rent one for the duration of your stay (then you can take it back to your hotel rather than having to walk) so that might be something to look into, and may cost less. You might check out the info on ECVs in the DISabilities section.

Thank goodness you weren't seriously injured, and I do hope you have a speedy recovery and a lovely vacation.

I'm sorry you're hurt, but so glad your daughter is okay. If you want the lowdown on ECVs come over to the DISabilities board. They know everything about everything. Take your meds and don't give up on your trip just yet! We went to WDW last year, just me & DH, and he was on Oxygen We had to take it easy and he had to rest a lot, but we had a blast and went on nearly everything.Good luck

Because my body was braced against the brake pedal when i was hit in '95, my right hip was "jammed". I did see it coming but couldn't do a darn thing to avoid it. Took 5 years before a sports physician realized it and got me the physical therapy to correct it.

Still it was the right thing to do because i was knocked into the opposing lane but because all my body weight was on the brake i only went a short distance and driver coming the other way was able to swerve and miss us. My son was in a car seat but was unhurt.

Be careful about a lapse in treatment before you are fully recovered. My insurance company (USAA) argued that since i had stopped seeing a Physical Therapist, my injury must have healed and tried to deny further coverage. I had stopped seeing that particular PT in despair after she asked if my TMG had caused my Whip lash injury. I got worse under her care because the jammed hip was pulling my back out of alignment.

I hope you recover fully and quickly and a trip to Disney would certainly cheer you up!

I ditto this. And.. most insurance companies will pay to replace it. We have Progressive. They have replaced two seats now, both boys, different accidents. Basically we purchased a new seat and turned the receipt and old seat into them... they reimbursed us the cost very quickly. I had a similar thing happen almost two years ago and finally got a settlement this past Spring. That guy was doing 65 in a 30 and never stopped as well. I too was at a stop light. It literally broke my jeep in half (you should see the pics) but miraculously both my DS (2 at time) and I were relatively OK. I did Physical Therapy and all and had no health insurance and the settlement was just enough to pay my lawyer and put a small down payment on a replacement vehicle. I'll be paying the medical bills for the next few years... Good luck and enjoy your trip the best you can.

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. My only advice about renting an ECV is get there very early especially depending upon the time you go. My mother passed this advice to me. She told me that they can go pretty quickly. You also might want to check the disabilities board about renting one. They are very helpful. Sue from MN is one of the most helpful people on that board and she would be able to answer your questions.

Thanks for all the prayers and hugs. I really need them right now. I am so stressed over the whole situation. Urg. I have found a company called Walker Mobility http://www.walkermobility.com/products.htm

They actually rent you a ECV and you can have it the whole time you are at Disney. They bring it to your hotel and pick it up for free. It is also 5 dollars cheaper than Disney Parks. I hope this website may help someone else who is in the situation I am in.

I am so sorry about this and send my best wishes . My husband was in a car wreck similar to that and had to get a lawyer to settle everything because the insurance companies were trying to deny coverage as the years went on (it was six years ago). We had to buy a new car (ours was totaled and paid for), physical therapy, etc. My point in telling you this is not to get you scared but to make you pro-active about your health care. He just received a very generous settlement which will really help because he did suffer and we did have economic losses. I hope you feel better really soon and am thankful your beautiful daughter was unhurt.

Lots of people have great vacations in a ECV but make sure you will be feeling well (vacations in pain are no fun).

So sorry to hear about your accident. Try not to stress too much, remember that part of the healing process is also emotional as well as physical.

It sounds like you are planning to make some adjustments for your trip (ECV), and that is great, remember to pace yourself & not push too much. We just got back from WDW & my Dsis has minor disabilities that we had to take into consideration. We just went a little slower and rested when needed.
