Bad weathet at Dicovery Cove question

You get wet!

You can make one change of date I think, free of charge, in advance of your trip.

Hahaha! I pictured us walking around in ponchos, like at WDW!

Good to know they allow you to change the date.

If you are already there & a storm comes, are there covered areas? Any indoor activities?

Thanks

Hi, we've been to DC twice now and are returning again in August. The first year we went a really bad thunderstorm came in with heavy lightening. They basically pull everyone from the water and you just go stand in the locker area's, dining area or anywhere there is shelter and wait it out. During our time there the storm came in around 4:30 or so and they held the park open an hour longer because of it. Although we didn't realize that until it was too late and we just made plans to leave for the day. You can almost guarantee you will get some form of rain if your going in the summer months.

We were in Orlando for spring break for six days / seven nights. We had five beautiful days and a miserable, cold rainy day for Discovery Cove. When we arrived they encouraged people to come back on a different day and helped people find openings. Unfortunately for us it was the last day of our trip, so we were out of luck. For this reason and due to this experience I highly encourage people to book Discovery Cove early in the trip vs. near the end. On this cold rainy day, but not lightening it was an expensive miserable experience. We did the dolphin swim (which is pretty lame compared to dolphin swims we've done other places), had some food, walked around a little, and left to warm up in a comfortable condo and do inside activities for the rest of the day. I think the warm snorkeling area would have been OK, but we were freezing and just wanted to change into dry clothes and leave.

We experienced some rain during the afternoon on our DC day. No thunder or lightening though. We were in the river to go look at the otters and as we got there the clouds opened up and it came a downpour. We hung out watching the otters which had a slightly covered area for a bit until it slowed to a drizzle. We were already wet so the rain itself didn't matter.

Kathy884, were you freezing in your wetsuit?

You bet. I was wearing my wetsuit and I was freezing. So were DH and DS. It was cold, windy, and miserable. lol -- I would have liked a dry suit for that day. (Now I would have at least spent some time in that warm snorkeling area. I think that would have been fine and worth doing, but I couldn't talk DH or DS into it. They were so anxious to get into some dry clothes and go back to the condo.) // DS does that five night Sea World overnight camp regularly in the summer and the kids get a day at Discovery Cove for that, so at least he's been able to experience the place in nice weather.

Yikes! Sorry to hear you were freezing. Sad you couldn't enjoy the day. My biggest fear with going in the summer is pouring rain all day and some lightning.
