Bad weather in October?

Whew, i'm full of questions lately!

I was just reading about weather in October and it honestly made me a bit nervous about tent camping. People were talking about how unpredictable it can be and the risk of tropical storms and tornadoes. I really don't want the expense of staying at a value and would truly miss the much anticipated FW camping experience. Please, help me calm down a bit. The rain averages aren't that high but I know we're still in hurricane season.

Do you think it's a bad idea to tent camp this time of year?

It's our favorite time to camp at the Fort. We tend to alternate between camping and cruising in October. We have never had any hurricanes during our camping trips but we did during our cruise and we were diverted to another port. I have read on the DIS that Disney will take care of their campers if there is a threat.

I've camped in October for the last two years. The weather has been glorious!!!! (Although 2008 in late October was actually a bit chilly). While I no longer tent camp, my camper is so tiny that I'm outside unless I'm sleeping.

We almost always camp in October. For the most part, the weather is some of the best I have seen in Florida. Keep in mind, however, that this is hurricane season. A few years ago we left FW 1 day before hurricane Wilma hit and closed down FW.

October is our favorite time to go. Great weather most of the time. It was a little nippy last year wasn't it Carol, but it was only a few days. It is just like any other time when the weather can change. We have used air and heat in the same trip, but for the most part it is great.

Yay, I just knew you guys would make me feel better. I didn't think it was a bad time to go, just read a bit too much I guess.

Looking forward to getting on over there and hopefully meeting some of you. We're so excited, now we just need to find the right tent!

October is really the best time to go weather wise. Most hurricanes are over and done with by the end of Sept, however, we did get Wilma, but I consider her a fluke. (she almost killed my TT and Trans Am!, she is not my favorite hurricane of the most current three I went through) I wouldn't dwell on it personally. Just have fun!

You know what, though? Those 10 days we were at FW just prior to Wilma were the BEST 10 days weather wise I have ever had in Florida. The temps were in the mid to upper 70's and the humidity was low.

Yeah, that fluky Wilma screwed that all to hell real quick. I was really enjoying October too!

Don't worry a bit about hurricanes. IF, by a great fluke, one were to hit while you were at FtW, they evacuate you to one of the resorts. Hurricanes do not sneak up on us, we know about them well in advance and have plenty of time to prepare.

FWIW - I grew up in Buffalo, NY & I will take a hurricane over an ice storm or blizzard, any day. Hurricanes: Big Winds - Lots of Rain. All the damage you see on the news are usually old mobile homes or steel buildings that were not properly reinforced. Big trees falling into homes is what can get the new construction - not the actual wind itself. Trees also take out the power lines - usually old trees whose root systems are starting to die out anyway.

I call hurricanes natures way of house cleaning.

October is wonderful! It is warm and comfortable but not stiffling hot and humid. At least most of the time. And the best part is that the crowds are not bad at all. I was there in Oct of 2001 and it was really nice. Short sleeves during the day and a light sweatshirt at night. Very, very nice.

Wilma delayed our trip by one day in '05, CM called my cell during our drive down, to tell us to go to AS instead of FW, we opted for an extra day at Cordella KOA. We got to FW while they were cleaning up. Not too much damage. The weather was great during the rest of our stay.

We have been there for 10 days around Columbus Day and it was VERY hot:scared: (2007)! I suggest the last two weeks of October for really nice weather.

October is the absolute best time to go to Disney. The Halloween party is FANTASTIC!!!!!:wizard:
