Bad reviews for Polynesian?

I read so many good reviews about POLY. I bought a book " Wiley The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2007" - they ranked the value of POLY as "D+". I was shock since the 2006 version, POLY got a "A".

The review in the section was saying that they have received many complaints about CM in Polynesian from their readers in the past years, and now they said that POLY does not worth the value with such spotty service.

Anyone been to POLY in the last few months? Did you notice a decline in CM quality?

I was planning to stay there in Feb 2007....now want to hear from you

We were there in May '04 & loved it - & we're going again next month...we'll let you know if we notice a difference.

Our family stayed 8 glorious nights in September and it was wonderful. We don't want to stay anywhere else now. The Cm's were all geat and friendly and the atmosphere of the Poly is the best. I love looking across the lagoon seeing MK and the castle.

Just a thought, make sure you are not confusing the Disney Polynesian Resort with the Polynesian Hotel that is in the Orlando area. This hotel gets bad reviews all of the time. :bitelip:

I have my first trip to the Poly in a little over a month. Woohooo! :cool1: I'll let ya know what I think of the service when I get back. :)

We had our first stay at the POLY in August. We had been dreaming of staying there for years. It was a let down. The service was fine - not great. The housekeeping was spotty - some days excellent, some days bad. We didn't have a bad time, more a middle-of-the-road "ok" time. For us, what we paid vs. what we received were not on par. HOWEVER, many people on these boards swear by the resort. The only way to know if you will like it is to try it. Have a wonderful vacation!

I was there for a week in December '05. no complaints. loved it!

We stayed there last month. Read a lot of negative reviews before we got there, mostly about rude CM's. We did have a few problems, but nothing out of the ordinary. The CM's we encountered were very gracious and helpful.
This is coming from two people who are very picky about service. :)

I stayed at the Poly last week for 5 nights and loved it! I thought everything was wonderful and the sevice was good. I stayed in concierge and the housekeeping was good (considering I've had horrible housekeeping in the Orlando area as a whole this past year, not Disney properties).
The only thing I had a bone to pick with was the temporary location and facilities of Captain Cook's...food was good but facilities were below my expectations for a deluxe hotel. But that is temporary...
The property is beautiful and the location is wonderful!

We were one of the families that felt "let down" by our Polynesian stay in July. The front desk was really rude and not helpful at all. We also thought the rooms too "dark" although that is definitely just a personal preference. We much preferred the bright and airy rooms of GF and YC. That's not to say that we would never stay at the Polynesian again, but for the price I would pick YC or GF over the Poly any day. We haven't tried the CR yet but hear lots of good reports from there.

We were at the Poly last week and had a wonderful time. We stayed in the Fiji builing and for a garden view room, the view was anything but garden - a view of the beach and the lagoon! Mousekeeping was excellent, towel animals, DD's Princess Jasmine doll tucked in the bed, etc. Staff greeted us with smiles wherever we went. This is my fourth time at the Poly and I've never had a bad visit. :thumbsup2 We love the Poly!!

We were there Labor Day weekend and were very pleased. The cm's were very nice, no problems that others have had, thank goodness. Yes, the location and look of the temp. CC location could have been better but it wasnt terrible. We loved the look of the resort and most of all...location, location, location!! You cant beat it!!

I have not stayed there..yet.... But...flame me if you must.... I did NOT find That Unofficial guide helpful. I bought the one for traveling with kids. There were very few helpful hints for traveling with little ones (the only helpful ones seemed to be by readers suggestions not the author) and the author suggests you NOT take little ones until the are at least 9 or 10. The author could be a saint that loves kids but I did not get that impression in the book. I didn't get any advice that would help me and many of they opinions were the exact opposite of 'real' people on these boards.

Well I have to defend the Unofficial guide since I know how hard they work on all the facts and I did help them with the Polynesian info. I can totally understand Goofy4donald’s point but I think the take the information and experiences they have and give their best advise. I don’t think that it is always going to fit what is best for everyone but they are giving safe advise to those with no experience. I for one am taking my 20 month old this December but I think there are valid points for waiting.

As far as the bad reviews well they have to go off the data that they get. It could be that the data was collected during a bad time with new CMs and management changes that caused some bumps in service. I remember them telling me they were going to give it a bad review but I also know management has been aware of the problems since the beginning of this year and have done things to address most of the problems. They have to report what they see but as with any other review you have to realize that this does not mean that these issues are still there. It works in reverse. The resort that is rated the highest could be experiencing problems now so you never know. If the resort had a long history of problems and it never changed than I would be concerned.

I myself have run into issues at the Polynesian but I could have the same problems at any resort I went to.

I had problems with a CM in guest services. She didn't understand English. Now I am sorry if you are going to have a CM in guest services - then she SHOULD understand English. :rotfl2:

she kept telling me that she couldn't cash my checks - they were American Express checks. that I know Disney does cash.

anyway she had learned to call them something different that AE checks. I don't remember the exact wording - but the problem I had was bad training.

Just curious which resort did you have a better stay at? i would think they all have their problems. Mousekeeping was spotty on our trip too, but it got better when we got a new housekeeper.

I think a lot of the things people are reporting in bad reviews are things that can happen at any hotel. I've seen like things said about quite a few of the deluxe resorts at WDW while doing the research for my May trip. We ultimately decided on the Poly because I want to relive some of the magic from my first trip into the world of disney back in 1980.

I am hoping for a great time at the POLY. in a few months. I have stayed there before many years ago and I always loved it. The only complaint I have at the present time is that wheelchair accessible rooms are only located in the Rapa Nui. Bldg. :furious: I hope this will be the only negative thing I have to report about the POLY.
