Bad reaction to heart monitor

Robin that is so funny. Now all I have to do is get out of the meeting tonight and get rid of my 24 and 23 yr. old sons. That should do it.

Just tell those sons what you have in mind to do and that should send them scattering real fast.:moped:

Problem solved. :sunny:

Actually you are right. If I said that they would be out the door LOL. Just got home from my meeting and am feeling a little better, the spots are not hurting all the time now so hopefully I am going to see the end of the hurt. Having the red spots go away is another thing. I have 5 rather large red round scabs, that are about 2 to 3" round. I really don't want to be the spotted tiger on deck but they told me tonight that it will have to form the scabs and then heal from there. Of course this had to happen now right?

Hey Tigercat, I had that same reaction when I had to wear a heart monitor for 24 hours. It seemd like nothing was helping the itch, and I CAN use benadryl, etc. Finally my 90 year old Grandma told me to take a bath with old fashioned oatmeal in it. Just put the oatmeal in a square of cheescloth, or even an old washcloth and tie it up real good so the oatmeal doesn't get out. Hold it under the waterspout while the water is running. While you're in the bath rub the spots with the oatmeal bag, very gently. Make sure the water isn't too hot, that'll just irritate more. Happy soakin' !!

Thanks Cindy that sounds like a really great idea, I'll see if I can't try it this evening.

are you allerigc to the latex maybe?

WHen I had my EKGs I had a terrible reaction to the pads and they panicked and said... never let anyone put latex on you again, youre not allergic just sensitive to it but it could turn into an allergy at any time.

So now I have to stay away from Latex as much as possible ( good luck everything has latex in it) the dentist uses a latex free kit with me.

Have you tried an oatmeal bath? that can be really soothing. :) good luck!

binny that's funny you mentioned latex. Yes I do have a reaction to latex. If I blow up a baloon my mouth feels funny and numb. It feels like it is getting bigger?? I was tested and they said that I had a sensitivity to it. I didn't know there was latex on those things as well!!! I know I can't take gels, bandages, tape so I was worried about all of those things but I didn't even think about latex being there, no wonder I had such a bad reaction to the thing. Thanks for the info. Do you know that if you have a sensitivity to latex you should also stay away from kiwi fruit and pointsetta plants? They come from the same family.

yep I knew that too scary isnt it?

and just go ahead and TRY to find undwear that doesnt have Latex in the elastic. Cant do it! They only make a couple of kinds... Latex is EVERYWHERE!!

here is a link with lots of info on latex allergies, its a sort of online clearing house for latex sites.

also if youre "sensitive" it means that youre allergic to one of the 300 + chemicals that make up latex, not just the latex itself.

Can you explain the difference between being very sensitive ie rashes, mouth numbing, fingers feeling numb ect. and being a "allergic" When you look up allergic in the dictionary it says to have a reaction to a certain item. I will have to look up that web site. The other thing I have a problem with is propylene glycol. Now try to find makeup, deoderant, ect without that....Right.

I have a question maybe someone knows the answer to.
My son (20) is anaphyactic allergic to peanuts and not to anything else but avoids all nuts because of this.
Last year he had to have a colonscopy done. He had to take COLYTE the night before. He developed red, tingly itch, hand and feet with hives and a flushed face within an hour of starting to take this stuff. We called the Telehealth nurse and a pharmacist and they both said stop taking it.
In the middle of the night he woke with very red, stinging, watery swollen eyes and were extremely sensitive to light We went to emerg. They thought it was an eye infection, we though a delayed reaction to the COLYTE. Slowly over the course of the next day or so his eyes got better.
There is Polyethylene glycol in COLLYTE along with Sodium& Potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and sodium sulfate.
The reaction had to be to the COLYTE or to peach jello, which I suppose is possible.(can't find any Peach Jello brand Jello to test that theory.)
Is this polyethylene glycol related to proplyene glycol?

Tigercat, it sounds to me what you have is an allergic reaction to the latex not a sensitivity, any time there is numbness, tingling, feeling like your mouth is swelling you should be very careful. Reactions have a tendency to escalate with every exposure to the allergen, so your next reaction could be worse.

Anyway, hope you are doing better today Tigercat.:sunny:

Tigercat, do you possibly have an allergy to nickel as well? Now that the welts have turned into scabs it sounds like what happens to my daughter whenever she has snaps (like on baby sleepers) next to her skin. I remember once when we put Vicks vaporub on her chest and then sleepers with nickel snaps, she got big red welts where the snaps were touching her skin. They turned to big scabs that eventually healed. She also reacts to cheap watches against her wrist and many kinds of cheap earrings.

Actually the gel is in the center of the pad, it's so that the contact with the skin is complete and there is not air between the contact and the skin.

I had that...I had to wear it for 5 days and after 2 my skin was blistering...my friend who works in the hospital got me this stuff that you put on your skin and put the contacts over it and it worked great....it was some clear liquid and it dryed on your skin dort of like liquid band-aid but it really helped my skin from getting eaten up by those things...boy were they itchy!

Nickel ? I don't know. I do know that my earrings have to be pure silver or gold or I can't wear them. I can't wear watches (do you want to know why?) so don't know about them. I should ask about the liquid bandage stuff next time though. That might help. Feeling a lot better with the scabs coming on. They are still itch and really red but don't hurt as bad.
