Anyone ever heard of this?
I make Potica every holiday season. This year, I ate one piece and was unable to sleep (despite multiple doses of mylanta) for hours and hours that night. My mouth and stomach felt like they were kind of burning/tingling. I figured I was fighting off a GI bug, even though I had a clove-ish taste in the back of my throat. (Cloves are in my Potica recipe, but not a lot).
Today, I bought some Chai tea. I made myself a cup, and as soon as I put in the teabag, it smelled kind of like cloves. And my throat instantly kind of felt like it was burning. I read the ingredients listed -yep, there's cloves in there. So I figured my body was just remembering how yucky I felt after eating the potica. I took a teeny tiny mini-sip of the chai tea. The tip of my tongue feels kind of tingly, and I have burning in my upper stomach/throat. Just a tad.
I know that cloves are a rare allergy, and I don't think that is what is going on here. But I cannot find anything about cloves upsetting the stomach, etc.
ANyone know about this?
ETA: I think I remember putting nutmeg in the potica, and I see it's in chai tea as well.
