Bad Pool Hopping Advice?

Just left Barnes & Noble and noticed a book called, "Plan Your Walt Disney World Vacation In No Time" by Doug Ingersoll. In the resort section, the book recommends pool hopping. It says if you are staying at any Disney resort, you have the right to use all other resort pools, specifically recommending a stop at Stromalong Bay.

I am pretty sure there has been no change in Disney policy against pool hopping, right?

Yes. About six or seven years ago they began to enforce this, and went as far as to fence off SAB so you can't use it without a resort ID from the BC/YC/BCV

Ugh. Was there a section on mug refilling? Did it suggest to buy a mug at any Disney resort, and refill it at all other resort filling stations?

I feel sorry for those who unknowingly follow that, and could be humiliated by being called out from another resort's pool.

I could never see the advantage in pool hopping anyway, considering how uncomfortable it would be to travel back to a different resort after swimming.

I thought the same thing. Can you imagine if you used the bus system to get to SAB (which would take about an hour) only to find out you can't use the pool.

But I wouldn't do either pool hop or mug swap.

Our DME bus driver on the way to POR in June told everyone they could take their resort refillable mugs into the parks with them and have them refilled at any counter service location for free.

Agreed! The one and only time we did this was during a leisurely stay at the BWV in off season, back before BCV was built and DVC still was allowed to hop to SAB, we spent an afternoon there relaxing and eating Beaches and Cream. It was easy enough to just walk back to the BWV at the end of the day. I can't imagine getting on one of those overly a/c'ed buses in a damp bathing suit.

Our DME bus driver on the way to POR in June told everyone they could take their resort refillable mugs into the parks with them and have them refilled at any counter service location for free.

DME drivers don't work for WDW. There's one on the transportation board trying to tell a Dis'er you can drive from MCO to TPA in 70 minutes...that's a 90 mile drive! 'Nuff said.

And a 90 mile drive that can take 2+ plus hours due to Disney traffic around exit 62 and the terror that is 2-75 in Tampa.
My trip to WDW is exactly 80 miles from my door to the first Disney exit. This past Sunday morning at 9 am it STILL took me 2 hours.

I hear you! I had to drive this past Sunday from my home in Northern Clermont to Exit 1 on I-4 then another two miles or so the the Channelside area. It took me a full 90 minutes to get there--and I hit no traffic until I got to 1/2 mile before exit 1. On the return at about 7:00pm it took me about 80 minutes, I hit a little congestion up around Zephyr Hills, then it was smooth sailing after that.

Well at least you didn't have to drive throught the 2-75/Veteran's Expressway /Memorial Highway nightmare. Yikes! You have to 2 lanes of traffic coming in from the right and the 3 lanes that you're in on 2-75 and have to be in the EXACT right lane to get off the Veteran's. A nightmare. I've only been living down here since April but it is by FAR worse than anything Ive had to deal with in Chicago for almost 30 years! I screw it up about half the time.

If you ever want to visit this coast ie. Clearwater, let me know and I'll try and guide you thorgh the traffic debacle.

but i saw his book recently at barnes @ noble and he sort of encourages it he says, can you imagine staying at the cheap all star and using the poly pool, then at the end of the book he encourages anyone to let him know of updates or how they feel about his book and i thought i should write and tell him, he is wrong, but never took the time,,
i also put his book back on the shelf because if he is wrong about this i wonder what else he has wrong in there...

You must have had the same driver that I had in May. He made a big deal about what a great value the refillable mugs were and how they could be refilled anywhere on property for free. I almost choked while I waited for someone to correct him, but no one did. The people sitting right in front of me were really excited and were talking about what a great deal that was and they couldn't wait to use them in the parks all day .

But I wouldn't do either pool hop or mug swap.

This opinion is not unlike whether the tree falling in the woods makes a sound. Our ethics and morality are determined by what we do when no one is looking. If you don't want to "get caught," then behave as the "catchers" want.

There is also a guide book out there that says CBR is the only mod. resort you can take a boat to Epcot from!!!! Can't remember which one it is though.

As far as pool hopping goes....I agree, I can't imagine riding around in wet suits or lugging my stuff from one resort to another just to use their slide. I own at BWV and still wouldn't bother!!

We are DVCers and one of our perks is pool hopping. But, its never a matter of getting back on the bus with wet suits. We always take a tote bag with dry stuff and just change into dry clothes in the resort gym. THey all have beautiful changing rooms with showers and blow dryers - which we never use. We use the lockers to store our stuff in.

In fact, last time at the F&W, my kids were desparate to go to Luna Park at Board Walk. So hubby and I had our bathing suits on under our clothes, and undies and such for the kiddies in the back pack. 1/2 way thru the day, we wook the boat to Boardwalk, swam for about 2 hours, got pretty dry, changed in the locker rooms, and headed back to EPCOT. My hair was a mess, but I used a hat. Since we had a stoller, I just kept the wet suits in a bag, and shoved them in the stroller.

It was actually a great day...

You definitely can't refill your mug at any resort. That's one of the main reasons every resort's mug is labelled with their name because they are checked.
