Walt Disney World's famed Jungle Cruise may get a huge renovation, but not for the better March 30, 2006 AP News Router
Walt Disney World imagineers have been disputing the future of the famous Jungle Cruise ride for quite some time now. It's no surprise, of course, that the ride has deteriorated after quite some time. Jungle Cruise opened in the Magic Kingdom on October 1st, of 1971, which is also the date that the Magic Kingdom itself opened. The Jungle Cruise is most noted for it's trip through the jungles of Asia, Africa, and South America. Originally Walt Disney wanted to use live animals for the ride, but this idea was scrapped after realizing that live animals would not stay where they were supposed to be. Thus, animatronic figures were used.
But now the animatronics have grown tired, sometimes failing to operate correctly at all. Once playful elephants that shot water at unexpecting guests have started to shoot water sporatically, often at the cast members dismay. It's a sad site, indeed. But what is planned? Sources indicate a "Finding Nemo" themed tropical river ride, but that was supposed to happen with the now extinct 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride. What the future has to hold for Jungle Cruise is unknown, but don't expect it to be a good one.
Thoughts anybody?
