Travel agent rang yesterday and told me that my trip to Israel in February has been cancelled - apparently we were almost the only people booked on the plane (can't understand why other people won't take their children to a war zone on holiday) but they offered another date or a full refund. Given that i have a slight aversion to heat seeking missiles being fired at me I jumped at the chance of the money. So the good news is...as this was supposed to be a girly holiday for moi and 2 DDs I gave them the choice of where to go within the original budget. They chose New York so we are off there for 4 nights on 30th Jan!! I know nothing about NY and have very little time to plan (by my standards) so all help appreciated. The hotel is the Deauville and we are flying BA from Manchester (£367 each, which I didn't think was bad)

Sounds great Sian. Mmmm I wonder why that is that people don't want to go to Israel ;)

NY is a very popular choice on these boards at the moment so you'll get some great tips :)

Sian, glad yer not gonna be in harm's way and sounds like yer've got a great alternative holider booked already.

Simon, yer gonna need a Brits Guide ter New York pronto mate. There's defo a market for it here at the mo.

Oh, and V says she's always wanted to go to New York too- now, there's a surprise!

... you have a great trip planned Sian :) I'd suggest you do a search for the New York threads we've had running on the CB and I think there's a couple on the UK Trip Planning too....... it's best to try the search before the USA wakes up.

I went in October and had a great trip! Is your hotel in Manhattan?

Shame about the Israel trip Sian but sure New York will make up for it.

I'm off to New York in a couple of weeks so will let you know any hints and tips when I return.

Sian, (and Astrid)

I was raised about a thirty minute drive from mid-town Manhattan, and would be happy to give you advice should you need it.

I am sure you are going to have a wonderful time. New York is a city like no other.

Wow Sian,

That is a great comprimise. You will have a brilliant time in NY.

Nice one Sian!

Will you be doing a mini Trip Report when you get back?

Actually, there already IS a Brit's Guide to New York! Not written by Simon, but a woman...he recommended it to me for my trip last year - it was very good and comes with one of those discount cards that give you a couple of $$ off certain attractions. If I can ever find the book (I know it's not on my bookshelf, so must be 'filed' in one of my safe places  ) I'll tell you the authors name.
