I have been reading these boards and have read that some people have had some very bad food and service at some restaraunts. I am not looking for anything ... but I am curious...has anyone been comp'd (not had to pay for their meal) at a Disney Restaraunt because it was bad?

I've wondered that myself. I had a tray of drinks dropped on me at Le Cellier a couple years back and, granted we were on DDP so there's not a lot they could have done, but I think they did bring me out a bowl of the cheddar soup free of charge...I think.

I have. And we didn't really even complain to get the free meal. We were at the Mexican restaurant in Epcot (obviously in mexico)...We ordered and waited for several minutes before even getting a drink. Then, we got the wrong food, the table that got our food (we got theres) complained A LOT. We were three tables away from the table that got our food. There were 5 of them, and they didn't have kids. They recvd. 2 adult meals and 2 kids meals. The waiter dropped them off, left and they had to go find him to tell them they got the wrong food. THEN, the waiter picked it up off of their table and was bringing it DIRECTLY TO OUR TABLE...The manager wittnessed this AS THE WAITER placed it on our table. Talk about unsanitary! This man got in big trouble. We just wittnessed it all...the SECOND this waiter put it on our table, the manager was there! The waiter got in big trouble.
The manager took care of us for the rest of our meal. He said it was free of charge...which wasn't necessary, but we didn't decline. He even set us up with this dessert platter that was amazing...(the dessert platter was BETTER THAN THE MEAL).

Most other places we've had nothing but great service! We went to the German buffett (in Epcot/Germany) and my daughter had an ear infection and the waitress saw that all my DD had was a bowl of soup...she layed on my lap for most of the time not feeling well...so she didn't get charged for her meal there, which was extremely thoughtful of the waitress/manager there- because I didn't want to pay $10 for my DD's 1 small bowl of soup. We didn't request that she be free, but the waitress knew that my DD hadn't eatten hardly anything.

We had a bad service experience at O'hana last December - we now hold a letter from Disney Customer Service for a complimentary dinner next time we travel. It was very generous and unexpected!

Yes I have been comped many times.
It all in how you play the game.

Kind of. This past February we had dinner at Coral Reef. Our server was terrible and never actually got my drink right. He disappeared for long amounts of time (one time he apologized for being gone so long and said he bumped into the bartender who was carrying a rack of glasses. Since they fell he had to clean them all up), the soups came out after our meals, our meals were cold (and they weren't salads!), and the coffee was cold. He actually said he would comp all our drinks, soups and gave us free desserts (basically we would only pay for our meals). He brought the check to the table and everything he said he would comp was still on there. Twenty minutes later he brought back a new check that we thought was right. After we paid I was thinking the total was off by twenty or so dollars. Once outside we looked and not only were our drinks still on there...but he had charged us for 9 sodas when we only had 5. We went back in and spoke to a manager who took not only the sodas off, but our wine as well. He also gave us a fastpass to use at any attraction.

I'm normally SUPER understanding. I've been a server and I know sometimes that one bad table can ruin your flow for the night but this was just one thing after another! The whole trip was like this! Disney actually ended up giving us two free suitcases. One because the AC inside the room leaked and soaked everything the night before we were leaving and they didn't have time to dry it for us (It was a Disney suitcase). The other was because as they took it off the luggage cart the bell services guy ripped the handle off. This one was Kenneth Cole and they went to the Kenneth Cole outlet and bought a new one for us.

I hope you're kidding.

Restaurants are so on to people that will purposely complain in the effort to get free food. Either way, the restaurant and the other diners all lose as eventually the restaurant will have to raise prices to cover all the free food they have had to give away to people that complained for no legitimate reason.

Me too.

I worked several years as a server and saw many people "playing the game." Sometimes I was able to call them out on it and it was kind of fun watching them squirm. :)

We got comped at Trails End. We were the first or second group to be seated and we asked to be near the buffet because my grandmother uses a wheelchair but likes to be independent and walk when she can. The hostess said nope, and put us fairly far away. Another group comes in and she starts to seat them far away too, but they ask to be near the buffet and she grants that request. My grandmother was livid and said something to our (very very nice) waiter while the rest of us were up at the buffet. We were not expecting anything, but received the comped meal and the dessert from the show next door. We left a massive tip for the waiter who made the entire meal turn around.

He could be kidding, there are a people who do try to "play the system". Very annoying - I agree.

We were a party of 6 and had the 'mandatory' 18% tip removed from our bill due to bad service. DH actually did wind up tipping - just not the full 18%. The restaurant was not busy at all, and I think it that case it was a situation in which the waitress simply thought she didn't have to do anything since her tip was guaranteed. She thought wrong. Ironically, DH is a typically a very generous tipper so if she had only done her job adequately she would have been well compensated.

Hmm...I'm wondering if I have ever had bad service at WDW. I can't think of a time it was bad enough to complain.

I do hate it when I wait in line for the Jungle Cruise and get a bad guide. :P
