Bad incident on our trip

I hope the OP gets some answers. I do think it is a little odd that the officer was so concerned, that he called for back up and not one actual sheriff's car appeared. I think most of us have seen sheriff cars all over WDW roads. If someone was going to be arrested, it certainly wouldn't be via a golf cart. Golf carts indicate security guard to me. I would have called the sheriff's department as soon as I got back to my hotel.

Could we just assume that people who report mistreatment are telling the truth? Most people don't bother saying anything, which doesn't help them or anyone else it might happen to. Clearly it was a confusing situation for the OP and she's less familiar with the inner workings of WDW, the Grand Floridan, and the police than many here claim to be. I hope she keeps pushing Guest Services for an explanation. I don't think the police will care, but I live in an area where only in-progress violent crimes get any police attention.
I'd like to believe that in all people but unfortunately there are plenty of people out there that like to do this..for attention.

That being said I do believe the OP. What I feel like though is that these "police officers" may have not been actual police officers and if they real police officers sounds like they were going way overboard.

I know in college one large apartment complex hired rent-a-cops..they were not actually cops but really basically hired security who carried guns, who wore attire similar to police officers and who had badges (though none would have read sherrif). When it came time to break up the numerous parties that happened all the time they had no real authority. If they saw illegal activity and chose to act on it they had to call the actual police to do anything about it. It could be that the people who stopped the OP were rent-a-cop type people who went on a power trip and called for back up who may have actually been police officers or just more rent-a-cop people.

Or it could have been someone posing as police officers..IDK it happens. It's happened several times in my metro. As far as scams go that can happen too. There's an IRS scam that's been going around our metro for a while. People think they are getting very threatening calls from the IRS and reallly it's just scammers and those scammers don't hesitate to use "if you don't pay we'll put you in jail, we'll take your house, your car, everything" tactics.

Yes, there are people who make things up for attention. It's still important to believe people who report misconduct. Otherwise, we create an atmosphere where nothing gets reported.
I do agree and also don't agree.

As a whole in real life if people had this happened to them and contacted the police and then the police never did anything about it or told people around you and they never believed you I would agree that breeds lack of trust over time.

In the internet world that's a bit harder to just believe all stories. Even people who believe the OP have asked questions because some parts just didn't add up.

Crazy things happen in life for sure but those crazy things also tend to go hand in hand with people questioning things. Doesn't mean people are necessarily trying to be mean.

I mean if I told you my cat stole my burger king coffee one day off of the tv tray dragged it with his teeth around the couch and into his room without spilling any of it you might think I was spinning quite the tale except it's all true. I'd still expect people to be like "say what..that sounds really crazy".

I'm talking about misconduct, not your cat. People who come looking for support and advice need that, not to have to defend themselves.

whoa no need to get snarky here. I was saying I was on the OP's side if you hadn't noticed but that I also understood where people were coming from as far as having questions regarding the whole incident.

Take it down a notch..k?
