My stylist moved, so I decided to try a different salon. I had a choppy, funky shag, but it was 8 weeks grown and needed a lift. I told the stylist that I don't have time to muss and fuss and I believe a great cut needs no styling products or blow drying. I need to get up, run my fingers through and go. I told her I wanted it shorter, but still long enough to tuck behind my ears and enough length in the back to flip out (it does this naturally) around to frame my face. I told her I did NOT want an inverted bob or anything that was wedged in the back. Nothing asymetrical. Yes, I'm a bit particular about my cut, but when it's done right, it's perfect and I love it.

I walked out with hair less than an inch long on the back of my head (she even had to shave part of my neck at the end :scared1: ), nothing long enough to STAY tucked behind my ears. It looks like a short Dorothy Hamill, perfectly 70s feathered and all. I was in shock, but had to get to an MRI appointment, so I paid and left. Once home, when I realized I can do NOTHING with this hair, I called the manager who just kept telling me what a wonderful stylist this was and how they've NEVER had a complaint. She finally offered to give me a free haircut the next time. I don't WANT a free haircut if this is a "great stylist" (who can't even LISTEN to the client).

Do I call the $$ a lesson learned or would you file a dispute? I'm SO peeved and it's going to take MONTHS for it to grow back to shag length again.

gosh, i hope you didn't tip her!

the last person i went to gave me the EXACT cut i wanted, but i told her i wanted my hair to be brownish/orange and i ended up with burgundy hair with PINK highlights!

I would take a picture of it and post it on the dis. I'm just saying.

Ouch! Sorry about your bad experience. My last bad haircut was from the girl I had gone to for years. I left the salon with everyone saying how cute it was....yeah it was a great style for 1980!!!! I just never went back. I found a SUPER stylist and even though she is expensive, she's worth it and she owns the salon so I know she'll never leave. ;)

She clearly did not listen to what you said, what a horror to be so surprised with what you did NOT want. I really think it would be very very difficult to "prove" to anyone that she did not do what you wanted and/or difficult to have others understand how you could not have noticed what she was doing while she was doing it. I happen to understand that happening, but perhaps in a "legal" setting don't think they would.
I would call back and tell Manager that you are not just dissatisfied with the cut after telling her what you did NOT want and your result, but that you do NOT want her to touch your hair again nor the shop but WOULD like to be refunded. If she balks, I would gently but politely tell her that you really are very upset and feel that you will then need to file a claim against the shop. She may just want to give you the money back to avoid that but if she does not, atleast you'll have that option. You can then say that it is her shops reputation that brought you there and her insisting that the stylist is good is not solving the issue of YOU having no hair left when you specifically told her what you did NOT want. Lay it on thick and as they say, the more time on the phone with you, her time and energy, the vested she'll be to resolve it just to be done.
In the meantime, try and deal with it as best as you can. You probably look great despite it not being your type of cut. It WILL grow back (I'd know, after losing all my hair after chemo, and then getting back curly hair ?? that is now 60% grey, OUCH, actually the curls have disappeared and the gray is colored/hi-lited, oops...I digress)
What I mean is, it will grow back and HOPEFULLY sooner than you think!
Good Luck, sorry to hear about your situation.

Are you seriously suggesting threatening legal action over a bad haircut? Please tell me you are kidding.

Sorry about your haircut.

You might want to try Nexus - Humectress. Some of my friends say when they use it their hair seems to grow really fast. It's kinda expensive ($8.99 a tube, I usually get is at CVS when it buy $20 get $10 extra bucks. Or Sams has big bottles of it.)

My sister had about the same luck last time with her regular girl. She also thought the conditioner made it grow out faster.

Good luck!!

Sorry about your hair. Please dont do anything idiotic like the guy in DC who sued his dry cleaner for 50 million over a pair of pants.

Nah, the worst I'd do is dispute the charge. I'd get my money back and they'd get hit with a chargeback fee (my company charges $15). I don't know, the manager acted kinda huffy and said she'd just have to "take your word on it". She did say that she talked to the stylist who said she had no idea she didn't do what I asked. OK whatever. It also didn't help that the whole time the stylist was talking about how she rescues horses and how she flips people off and goes into barns with horsewhips in case anyone tries to stop her...:scared1: It was NOT a happy or relaxing appointment!

Oh, bummer for you. I've had a few bad haircuts, including one that was so lopsided I ended up looking like I was leaning! I'd suggest getting a cute headband and some barrettes to hold it back since it won't tuck behind your ears. As for the stylist, I don't have much advice. One of my bad haircuts came from a beauty school, so I went back and one of the instructors "repaired" it and it looked good, just not what I'd wanted. Another was from a well-established stylist who, like you said, agreed to do exactly what I wanted...then didn't. In that case, I just never went back, and befriended hair clips until it grew out.

Take a picture in of what you like next time! - or a picture os yourself with the haircut that you liked so much.

I would take them up on the offer of a free cut next time but go to another stylist if you don't want to give her a second chance.

Really super sorry about the haircut, I think we've all had a few bad ones. I'd try taking some over the counter pre-natal vitamins to make it grow faster. My hair grew like a WEED when I was taking those things.
You can call your credit card company to dispute the charge, but honestly unless they give you the money outright for being a good customer, it won't fly. They might credit you up front, but trust me in the end it won't come out in your favor. I *unfortunately* see these disputes all the time. There isn't anything we can do because you paid for a service, and you got it. The first thing they will say is that it was in person, you had the opportunity to stop it/say something and you paid for it thereby giving your authorization. Sorry. But it will grow out.

Honestly, this is hair, it will grow back. She gave you what she understood from your directions. Lesson learned and do not return to the salon. As for demanding a refund, the salon could argue theft of services if you dispute the charge and your card issuer reverses the charge. The merchant has a chance to respond when you request a charge back. I would forget about it and move on.

Life is short, and so is your hair. The hair will grow back, but life will still be short. In the grand scheme of things…well, you know.

LOL, I won a gift certificate to a big time salon here in town....I was so excited as I would never be able to afford a cut here. Well, I went...even though I had an EXCELLENT stylist...after all the gift certificate was free and my normal cut was over 100.00. So I told her how I normally had it styled and she got to cutting. I should have walked out when she had to ask another stylist how to use the razor to razor cut the ends....scary!!! Then when she styled it she said "you'll have to use a LOT of styling products, otherwise it'll just look like you took a weedeater to it" ARGGGGHHHH. I left and quickly called my regular stylist, explained that I'd won this GC and asked if I could come and have her fix it....she said of course!!! I don't trust anyone else to do my 'short' cuts anymore...it's just too risky LOL

Get some cute highlights in it, maybe dye the back underneath a different color and wait for it to grow out....it'll grow fast now that you've had it cut so short. Oh and check out other ladies hair when you're out and about at stores, doctors offices...etc. Ask them where they have it done, even tell them that your stylist moved...etc and that's why you're asking, most women will gladly tell you and take it as a compliment that you're asking :) Or if your old stylist worked in a salon with other ladies...maybe they would know how you had your hair cut and be able to copy that? I know that my old stylist moved but the lady that owned the salon where she worked had trained all the girls once they got out of school, so they all were able to do my hair and not screw it up :)

Thanks all, for the tips. I think I've decided to call the salon and tell the manager that I don't feel comfortable coming back, but I don't want to feel like I wasted my money, either, so for them to please "give" my credit to another client who needs it. They have a breast cancer ribbon on their door, so maybe a cancer survivor who is coming in for a service. Of course, I will never know if they really will do that, but I'll feel better knowing that THEY know why I'm not coming back and that I'm not a total you-know-what. Lesson learned. I think I will go back to the other salon and see if they can find someone who "gets" me. :hippie:

This salon wasn't in Boardman was it? The stylist reminds me very much of someone i knew from doing "rescue" with. Interesting. I am so curious if its teh same person, if it is she is a real fruitcake who is a horrible stylist.

Hair grows back, so don't worry too much.

Any place I have ever gone for hair cuts, the manager would try to fix any problem I had.

Easy....Don't go back. This has probably happened to everyone and it's hard to say if it's a bad cut or if your hair just doesn't work with the cut. I have curly hair and it's almost impossible to find someone who can cut it well. It will grow out in a few months, then go somewhere else, after you ask around and get some reccomendations. It's not that big of a problem in the grand scheme of things! It happened to me 8 weeks ago and now it's ready to be cut again, I have had a bad hair day for months, but if that's all I have to worry about, it's all good!!!
