Bad experience renting an adaptive van

I wanted to share our experience with renting an adaptive van from Discount Mobility USA in Orlando. It was a costly expense...over $700.00 but well worth it when staying off Disney and having a child in a wheelchair.

However, my concerns began when we arrived at the airport and no one with the van was there to meet us. I had to find the phone number and call over to the rental facility. I was kindly told that someone would be out for us soon. We had to wait quite a bit of time while someone was driving the van to the airport. Silly me, I thought that they should of been there when we arrived. Then we had to take the van driver back to the rental facility, which we lost alot of time doing this. We had requested a adaptive mini van, as we saw in their advertisement but was given a big, huge, school bus type van. It ate up alot of gas. The worse part of this experience was returning the van on the day we were to leave Orlando. We had to drive to the rental facility to pick up the driver to take us back to the airport. The rental facility couldn't have been further away from the condo we rented. We stayed somewhere off Orlo Bronson Blvd. Not knowing the Orlando area, of course we got lost trying to find this place. When I called for directions to help me, I was put on hold for such a long time. We arrive at the rental place and was told that the driver left to bring someone else to the airport. When we asked for someone else to drive us to the airport we were told that there was no one else. I couldn't believe that they knew we had to go to the airport and now we were stuck at this rental place. We almost missed our flight. Finally the one and only van driver arrived and we made it to the airport without any time to spare. With all this running around the van should be equipped with a GPS system for navigation.
I felt that the van company should have met us at the airport on arrival and someone should of met us at our condo to pick up the van and bring us to the airport.
If you are thinking about renting from this facility, please add to your plans extra time for drop off and pick up, since you are doing this all yourself. Remember to add much extra time in the morning of your departure because this facility is not easy to find and you may have to wait for a driver if you are late. I hope this thread id helpful.

Wow, what a rotten experience! I would have been furious! For that amount of money, they certainly should have been waiting for you & have someone to pick it up at the airport.

We have used Rainbow wheels before and they are wonderful. They were waiting for us both on our arrival and for our departure, At the airport.
Try them next time so you don't get the run around.

Sorry for your bad experience, but thanks for the feedback on the company. I added some additional information to the disABILITIES FAQs thread about renting wheelchair vans.

Sorry for your bad experience on holiday, i have used Discount Mob twice and i have found their service okay. i must agree though that when you have to take the driver back is a pain. when leaving the airport, you just want to get to your hotel.
