Bad Credit Card...Bad Credit Card...

We got a call early this morning from the Fraud & Abuse department of our credit card company. Apparently our credit card number is taking a trip from New Jersey to Virginia.

I truly appreciate that the company discovered this - but what a PITA.

My credit card is making the local rounds of Blockbuster and Walgreens. How can you spend $500 at Walgreens? or $300 at Blockbuster? I always check my card online every couple of days, so I called the credit card company and they had already stopped some of the charges. They were really on the ball and simply read me all the charges for the past two days, and I just had to say which were mine and which weren't. It was a pretty simple fix, fortunately, and we caught it at about $1000 of fraudulent activity.

Unfortunately, that was the Friday before Christmas, and the same day my computer that has my checkbook on it went down, so I had NO MONEY FOR THE HOLIDAYS!!! Luckily, the computer fix was cheap and quick, so I got back into my checking account, but it's really inconvenient being without my only credit card. And now I'm realizing all the places online that have that number, that I am going to have to fix!

Wow! I hope that whomever is accompanying your card gets caught real fast and punished real hard!

My # was taken in Nov. (Bank One Disney Card) I didn't have any problems getting it corrected. They took off the charges even before I received my next statement. They also sent me an affidavit to sign. It was about 1 1/2 weeks before I got a new card - luckily I had another card that I could use.

that seems to be happening more and more frequently
hasn't happened to me yet! Crossing fingers.
That is why new laws starting in CA state you can not mail someone mail to home address with SS # on it. Sort of a pain in the butt for us at insurance company I work at. But all other states are following suit.

I have Tom Clark gnomes and when I looked at my certificates, they are using my social security number as my collector's number. Now this is how it starts - we'd all better be more diligent and careful with our numbers and keep shredding!!!!

My BiL had this story happen to him just this morning. He runs a small towncar service in Massachusetts. Gets a call early today to pick someone up at a motel in Leominster, MA and run them to Providence, RI. He quotes the price and the fellow gives a cc # with exp date. BiL runs it through and it clears. He sends a car driven by an off duty police officer and tells the driver to ask to see the cc before the trip starts. The driver gets there and asks for the cc. Fellow says it's at his home in RI. Asks for ID. Same thing, it's at his home in RI. The driver tells them no ID or cc, no ride. The two fellows go ballistic. The driver called the Leominster PD and they come out and found out one of them was wanted on an out of state warrent. The cc # is was found to belong to a soldier currently stationed in Germany who did not know someone was using his cc#. I believe they are both in jail waiting to be arrainged Monday morning.

You know, it's funny about 8 months ago, DH's "gas" card was stolen, it wasn't a real gas card, but a credit card that he only uses to fuel his truck. Card has a $500.00 limit... I felt sorry for the people who stole it, it already had $400.00 on it...worst part is they could have stolen one of his business cards, which have limits I dont even want to post here.
