Bad cook needs a suggestion for dinner

Chili with a side of cornbread. For the cornbread take a box of Jiffy cornbread mix, replace the milk with a small can of creamed corn. Put in dish and bake according to the box. Makes a good and hearty meal.

We love chili with cornbread too. I also use the Jiffy cornbread mix. The Jiffy cornbread is too dry for us without a little doctoring. I add about 1/2 cup of lite sour cream. It's lighter and moister with it.

I'll have to try your version. :)

I'll have to try those Jiffy cornbread ideas. I make mine with some chopped jalapenos and shreaded cheese baked in it. So good with chili!

I'm so glad I found this thread. My new year's resolution is too cook more and I'm already running out of ideas. There are several recipes here that sound delicious and easy for a beginner cook. We'll see if I have better luck with the ziti, I'm going to try that first!

A great thread for you (and anyone else who is wanting to cook more and eat out less) is the Eat at Home thread. Everyone posts their menus for the week and are happy to share recipes and tips when we are asked. It's a great way to get an idea on what you might want to make!

Do not fret! Go to the grocery store, to the freezer section. Look for Bertolli frozen pasta meals. Buy 3 bags so that you will have plenty. Take it home and follow the direction of the bag. It takes about 10 minutes to cook and you will have a really, really good pasta entree. Add a salad and bread and you are good to go.

My personal favorite is the Chicken Florentine but there are many different to choose from.

I suggest getting 3 for 3 adults because we eat 1 for 2 women and it is just enough. It sounds like you might have a couple men at the table so I think I would go with 3 and then maybe have some left for a lunch.

We're having my bil from out-of-town for two nights. I'm going to do this for tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendation for Bertolli.

Just got back here and realized you made the ziti. I'm sorry your family didn't care for it - my guys love it. We can only conclude that you're not a bad cook, you're just cooking for the wrong people!

I think you're right. dh said he'd prefer the sausage sliced into medallions but I think because the meat sauce is layered over the pasta, it needs to be crumbled to meander down into the pasta.

I baked two bowl of the ziti and we ate one of them last night. So guess what's for dinner tonight? We'll have another go at it!
