We have done both the last couple of visits. But if we had to pick one or the other - we would go with HDDR. My DDs are 7 now, and while they may not always get the corny jokes - they would pick HDDR also. I enjoy watching them laugh at some of the jokes.
HDDR is funny.
The BBQ is fun. Dancing with the characters can get chaotic though. You've got a whole lot of kids wanting to dance with characters - and parents wanting that calendar shot. The rope trick guy is really neat to watch too.
So I don't think you can wrong with either choice. It all depends on what you want. For us, we would go with the HDDR. Especially after a day at a park, it's much calmer to sit & laugh with a show than try to get on that dance floor.
