We're going to WDW 9/2-9/8. I'm getting overwhelmed reading through everything trying to make dinner plans. We've never done this before, and probably wouldn't (do dinners like this) - but since we have the free dining plan we're taking advantage of it! (This is my kids first time going - I went as a college student for a day)

My kids are 7 and 9 - and we'd like to do either Backyard BBQ or Hoop de Doo - any opinions on what is best?

Our kids are not big eaters, they like the typical burgers, dogs, pizza, chicken, etc. so if there is a place that has a strange kids menu please tell me to stay away from that too! LOL

I'm very excited, but this dining thing is giving me fits! HELP PLEASE!!!

Never Went To Mickeys Bbq But I Wouldn't Go Back To Hddr. My Kids -11,9,9 Thought It Was Okay But They Did Not Eat Much. I Just Di Not Think The Entertainment Was Good Enough To Spend That Much Time There. Go To 50's Pt Cafe. My Kids Loved That!!

I have always wanted to go to Mickeys Backyard bbq but it is seasonal and never open when we are there:(.

We've done both (DH,Me,DDs-4,13,16). We all really enjoyed Hoop-de-doo. The entertainment was funny, and the food was good, but my girls are not picky eaters. They served corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, ribs, and chicken. We'll never do Mickey's BYB again. This is more for the little ones--there was dancing and singing with the characters. It got a little crazy for a while.:scared1:

I've done both. And while both are fun and food is okay. I sincerely don't see the money in it. (value wise)

We are staying at Fort Wilderness for a week. While there, we plan to do dinner at Trails end, which serves the same food as both HDDR and Mickey's BBQ. There all made in same kitchen. So you know it's gonna taste the same.
For me it's a much more reasonable value. I'm getting the same food, then I can go to campfire for much the same fun as Mickey's BBQ. I also have DDE card, so I get 20% off. Even more of a value.

That would be my suggestion. Unless money is no object...then go for it!!

Blessings,
Winnie

Thanks for all the suggestions - we did book at the BBQ - since our kids are 7 and 9 and both love music and dancing, we figured that would be right up their alley. :) We're using 2 TS, which is fine because we'll have more food than we've ever eaten before the rest of the week!

I agree on Trails End - especially for lunch, yum!

The BYB was a birthday gift to myself (from myself) a few years back, I'd been looking forward to it for a long time. What a disappointment. But Hoop De Doo - the last time I did that was a couple of years ago, we have it booked for this year (during free dining). We had a very good time. And I agree on the campfire. You can see Chip and Dale for free there.
