Going for the first time to the fort in 19 days.:cool1: Wondering if we should do the Backyard BBQ? The kids are in university and staying home, so it is just DH and myself. Is the BBQ mostly for kids and how is the food? Not sure if it is worth the money to go.

I've been to it and honestly, if it was just myself and my hubby we'd probably go somewhere else. A nice table service restaurant. The Backyard BBQ is great for people with younger kids....family friendly buffet, great character interaction, you don't have to keep the kids quiet and still. The buffet can get messy though because all of the kids serving themselves. And the tables are all picnic tables pushed together and first come first serve so you won't have a table to yourself.

Have you been to the Hoop Dee Doo Review ?? We really enjoyed that. It's a corny show with cute jokes. The food was good and plentiful and you have a reserved table and a waiter ;)

Thanks Shannone!! No, we have not been to the Hoop Dee Doo. Don't know if we could get a reservation at this late date. Is it worth the price? This is more of a relaxing vacation and we are looking for somewhere different to eat that we haven't been to, but not too expensive.

The HDDR isn't cheap...but comparable to other WDW dinner shows I think. You might be able to get a late seating because that time isn't as popular with families. One benefit to eating there is that you don't have to leave the campground. It's casual and laid back.

Whispering Canyon Cafe next door at the Wilderness Lodge is also a nice place to eat. You'll want to make reservations. Their skillet style meal seems to be really popular though we haven't tried that one yet. You can take a relaxing boat ride to WL, or a slow stroll through the one mile paved nature trail to get there.

with kids yes, just you and hubby no. Go somewhere nicer. Food is just ok.

I wouldnt go anywhere NEAR the BYBBQ without kids...really over priced, the show is totally geared twards kids...food aint bad, but ya wont be writing home about it....at that price youd do yourself a great favor taking in something else like the Polynesian Luau Dinner show...Ive heard thats a pretty entertaining dinner.

This is one of only a handful of places in our 25 years of going to FW that we have never eaten at and probably never will. Like you it's just the two of us now and if we had small kids we might consider it, but from everything I've read it's sort of noisy, geared to the children and the food is just like or similiar to the HDDR or the TE buffet.

We first did the HDDR back in the 1980's and the Poly dinner show sometime in the early 1990's and redid the HDDR in 2005 and the Poly in 2007. The 2005 HDDR was just as corny and entertaining as 20 years ago, but the Poly lacked a lot of actual show with a lot of filler. The fire dancer was great, but we won't be going back there again. With our DE the Poly last year was around $48/person and that included gratuity.

Back in the mid 1980's they used to have a evening dinner show at the CR rooftop restaurant (now know as the CA grill room and I think that's it's third name change) that was great, but that went away a long time ago.

I second either the WCC or the HDDR if you can get ressies as good alternatives for basically the same type of food as the BYBBQ.
