This past Wednesday at MK at about 8, while the Spectromagic parade was heading up Main Street, we were trying to leave the park. As we came from Tomorrowland through the Plaza Pavilion we were directed "backstage" along the back of the Main Street stores and back "onstage" next to Tony's. I was very surprised that this happened. Do they always do this? I do know that it was very crowded that day and they did add another Spectromagic at 10 that wasn't originally scheduled for that day.

That's really cool isn't it?!? When my son Erich and I were there Christmas week 2001 we got to go out the way you explained. The MK was absolutely packed that evening,I believe they do this to relieve the congetstion during heavy crowd times.Erich and I thought it was really neat to get a glimpse of "backstage"! :)

We exited this way one time when DS wanted to leave in the middle of Wishes. It was really cool.

That exit is used when it is really busy in the park. They understand that everyone does not want to watch the parade/fireworks and make it avalaible for those that are trying to leave the park. It can get very frustrating trying to get out of the park when it is very crowded so they use that to alieviate some of the frustration. Some people find it unacceptable but i think it is a great way to get past the parade. There was a thread on here a while ago stating that it was unacceptable because it "ruined the magic" but for me personally, I am VERY impatient and trying to get through the stores and around masses of people is very frustrating and causes me to get very irritable... I don't think seeing a parking lot behind the Main Street shops "ruins the Magic". I applaud them for making it avaliable :) Maybe someday they will add on the "behind the stores breezeways" like Disneyland Paris has and then there would be no problems...Not holding my breathe on that one, but if you have ever been to DLP you will understand how nice those are...it is the same concept, but it is not "backstage" it is just a covered walkway behind the stores on Main Street.
