Can you bring full size backpacks on all rides or do you need to get a locker? Any rides that you are not able to bring full sized backpacks on, or that are extremely annoying to hold backpacks on?

You can bring full size backpacks. For some rides, you may have to put the backpack in your foot space so it can be a bit tight. Matterhorn, Splash Mountain, Gadget Go Coaster, Goofy's Sky School and Space Mountain come to mind. Maybe Big Thunder Mountain as well depending on how large you and the person you sit with are.

FYI Grizzly River Run has free short-term lockers nearby.

Guardians - gets a little tight but still possible.

Jumpin jellyfish - you can leave it on the ground.

Soarin - has a space in the middle for oversized items that don’t fit underneath your seat.

Incredicoaster - I’ve used the pocket for bags but also just hold the backpack between my legs.

For fast/bumpy/swerving rides where you put your backpack on the floor of the vehicle, make sure to put one leg through a shoulder strap to keep your backpack secure. Someone lost their backpack on the loop while riding the IC a few years ago and shut the ride down for over a day. Such an easily preventible accident.

This is the first trip I’ve carried a backpack, and I’m pleasantly surprised to find that it hasn’t been a huge deal. Sometimes it’s a little tight, but it’s never been really bad.

I usually put my backpack between my legs and wrap my legs around both the straps. Feels weird to do it at first but after awhile and several rides, I hardly notice it anymore.

Also adding that if your bag has pockets on the outside that you're using for a water bottle or similar, then make sure you put those things inside the main body of your bag while you're on rides. My DH didn't and that's how he lost his water bottle on Space Mountain 🙄

Thank you for all of the replies 🙂. I love the cute small backpacks but don’t think they will be realistic for our family of 4 in August. Good to hear that bringing the standard backpack won’t be a problem on the rides.

I converted from a zipper backpack to a drawstring one on my trip last week (when I broke the strap catching it on a turnstile). The drawstring was SO much easier to open and close quickly, and you never have to worry about forgetting to close a pocket. I got this one in the park for $19.99.

Everyone in our family has to carry their own backpack, usually a small one. My daughter and I like to the cute ones and my son and husband have smaller traditional backpacks. I find that having everyone manage a small backpack is easier than trying to deal with one supersized one. Then they all have their own stuff, and no one person has to be the pack mule. :D
I've been making my kids carry their own stuff since they were pretty small. It always worked well for us.

When I was there a couple weeks ago they had a strap on IC that you had to fasten to your backpack when it was at your feet. That was new to me. The only place I usually feel like it can be pretty tight squeeze is sometimes on Splash Mountain. But I am not skinny… :-) So much better than universal though, where there lots of road you can’t take a backpack on!

A friend that was went in my group yesterday, brought a huge full-on backpack with a computer in it extra shoes, etc and she got it on the rides. Not something I would have done, but hey it worked for her.

It's so amazing to me that people drag in things like computers. My want is to take in as little as possible!

sorry to crash this thread but does anyone know of any good waterproof backpacks that aren't too big? my friend wants to have a waterproof bag for the water rides/for later use if we ever go when it's raining outside.

I really like my 65th Anniversary Loungefly mini backpack, and I was going to use it as my park bag for my upcoming trip, BUT.... my Minnie ears don't fit in it! So that's a deal-breaker. Typically, I carry a tote bag in the parks (the electric blue metallic Maleficent one that shows in my profile pic). I prefer the tote to a backpack, because I can reach into it to put things in or retrieve them without having to take it off.

I wish those straps were in every car! So helpful.
