Hi from Nova Scotia... :wave2:
First time on here...we are going to WDW and because we are travelling with a diabetic, we need to take some necessary supplies with us. Thought that a back pack would be a great idea however are people allowed to go on the rides with a back pack?? There are just 2 of us travelling together and we both would like to ride the rides if possible. :earboy2:

yep - i have taken my backpack on every ride at wdw (even rnrc and tot). no problem. just make sure you hold onto it! :earboy2:

When we carry a backpac we set it on the floor of faster rides and hook a foot through it.

I take mine on every ride and I take it off and put it at my feet on every ride. Even on fast rides like Rockin Rollercoaster I just put it behind my legs on the floor with a wrap around my leg. No problems!

That's one thing I love about WDW- you can carry a bag on EVERY attraction. At Universal for most rides you have to rent a locker. Its free but it does take up time. -Steph

Why take a backpack. Everything I need can be fitted in a fanny pack. Monitor, strips, lancet, insulin and needles and some small sncks for emergencies. BAckpack is way too big

I Agree!!! :rotfl: But seriously, yes you can take a backpack on all of the rides at WDW. We always take a backpack or messanger bag w/ us and have never had any problems. :sunny:

Welcome to the DIS boards Karabellie!! I used to take a backpack, but after a few days touring it started bothering my shoulders. So, now I use a fanny pack. There are so many others in WDW that use them that you really won't stand out!! Although, after getting my dh to use one (each one of us carrys our own stuff), he shuddered after seeing a photo of us and there he is...fanny pack and all!!! Says he can never show that photo to anyone. :rotfl: Ah well....that's life. But, I have almost left a backpack behind after eating or in the restroom. That's never happened with a fanny pack. But, you would be fine with either one...it's up to personnal preference. And I have never had any problem with either one on an attraction.

A little embarased to say it but I like a fanny pack better also. Just promise your self that no matter hov convenient it is you can only use it in the World.

I'm assuming your traveler is type 1 or takes insulin?

My son is type 1 diabetic and I bought a bag from ebags.com that can be worn as a fanny pack or over the shoulder/across the chest and it is bigger than the usual fanny pack. It can hold a lot: http://www.ebags.com/lewis_n_clark/organizer_waist_pack/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=7942

There is also a nice organizer bag here: http://www.pumpwearinc.com/accessories.htm but it costs $40

I think if you plan to bring a lot of things you could store some items in a locker and keep necessary items in a smaller bag. Also the first aid stations in the parks will store insulin for you. I know some folks want to keep it with them rather than trek back somewhere to get insulin. You should check out the Frio Wallets for carrying around insulin vials, cartridges for insulin pens and syringes. If you do an internet search you'll find many places that sell them and they are small packs that keep things cold and are activiated with water.

Have a great trip!

Thanks everyone for the feedback...lots of good advice and yes if I do opt for the fanny pack....there will be no post-Disney wearing! :rotfl2: Those photos will make for some funny blackmail!
