We are considering a lightweight backpack for the parks, but what do I do with it on the rides? Do I wear it or put it at my feet? What about on Mission space or the coasters? I'm panicking...

Hi there, I carried a small backpack with me this last trip. It was perfect. It kept my camera and money safe under a zipper and with me at all time, hands free. On rides, even coasters, I put it at my feet and put one leg thru one of the straps. Never a problem!

I would completely recommend this. A fanny pack wasn't realistic as I have a couple kids, and I didn't want to leave my valueable stuff in the stroller. It was perfect!

I didn't do MS, but for all the coasters I just put my leg through the strap and it was totally fine (even on Rock N Roller Coaster). For Soarin, there is a little basket under your seat and my back pack fit in fine.
As far as the wet rides, I am not sure what would happen on Splash Mountain b/c my DH stayed behind with my DD3 (not tall enough to ride) but on Kali River Rapids, there is a covered console in the middle-it is not that big by mine and DH's backpack both fit on 1 side.
Enjoy!

I carry a denim backback so that I can roll the straps around my hand. I have never had a problem and I have gone on all rides. On splash mountain you only get a little splashed but I have all my things in a plastic bag inside the backpack. Kali does have the circular thing that your things in. Mission space has a little console to put your things. You won't have a problem with a backpack.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I will look for a lightweight, smallish backpack at the mall. I will be the pack mule for the husband and two older kids....can't wait.

:wave2: I used a small backpack on our last trip, and got 2 tips: buy one with the most pockets you can find (it makes easier to find things in it) and never put your pins on your packback (I lost 2 that way)

We bring a backpack with us for every trip. Mind you, I actually didn't carry it much. . .but my fiance never had a problem storing it for any ride.

Mission Space has a bin in front of your legs to stow your belongings. Might not be large enough for a standard-size, filled backpack -- but a smaller pack should fit just fine.

My camera bag is a padded backpack that I take everywhere at WDW. I either wind the straps around my legs on "turbulent" rides or use the areas provided (like in MS). I've never had a problem with it anywhere. Have fun!

I also use a denim backpack and bring a few of the pastic bags you get from the supermarket. For the wet rides, I put the backpack in one of the bags and tie it. That way, the backpack doesn't get wet.

I use one of the mine backpacks....first time on RNRC I wrapped it around my legs as others suggest and it started flying around. I didn't lose it, but it worried me enough to not wear it that way again. I tend to just flip it to the front with a strap over each shoulder...kinda looks like a baby carrier. I did this for RNRC last week and the overhead retraint held it in place perfectly.

I read somewhere that a bag will NOT fall out of Rock n Roller Coaster b/c the centrifical force pushes it down into the ride vehicle.

You can take a bag on every ride at WDW- I love that! At Universal you have to rent a locker for most rides.

I usually carry a small leather knapsack and usually slip my foot through the straps
