Backpacks and or rolling coolers?

My family is huge Disney visitors. We have waited till now with our two kids to do Universal. They are now 11 and 9. Are you allowed to bring in backpacks and/or coolers with water bottles or snacks they way you are at Disney? Is there a security check?

You can bring in a backpack with waterbottles and snacks but rolling coolers are not supposed to be brought in.

Soft coolers are permissible.

Check with the vendors to see if they offer anything sugar-free.
