What do you do with your backpack when you go on the thrill rides, like RnR, or the water rides? Do you just put it on the floor and hook it on to your legs?? My husband thinks I'm nuts for wanting to bring a backpack into the parks with us, but I need somewhere to carry the maps, rain ponchos and camera, don't I???? I don't really want to carry it around either but where would I put the camera and rain stuff??? I don't plan on bringing a lot of stuff into the parks with us, but I would think I would need something to carry all that stuff in???

What do all of you do????

Thanks for your help! We leave in four days and I am so excited. This is my first trip ever to Disney World. My husband has been there twice growing up. We are bringing our sons 7 and 11 years old. I think I am more excited than my kids!!!!!! We are getting ready to pack and I have a million things running through my mind about what to bring and what we're going to do and plus I just can't wait to be at Walt Disney World!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can take your backpack onto the ride with you. Just put it on the floor at your feet, under your legs.

Some rides have mesh bags to put your stuff in. (Soarin, mission space, etc.)

depending onthe size it might fit under the seat bar with you, pack strap around your shoulder...however you might see how much you don't want to lug it by trip's end so maybe take something along in case you want to down size( we travel light, longer into trip the lighter it gets:))

When I went in April, my Giant Backpack of Doom (tm) came along with me--I rode with it either tucked under my legs or looped around an ankle. Mine's waterproofed (it was my high school backpack--very sturdy, and it's survived so well :sunny: ), but if you worry about wet rides, try lining the bottom with a piece of plastic cut from a garbage bag, and tack it down with hand stitches.

I was glad I took a daypack to WDW. The advantages outweighed the disadvantages of having to have it checked on entry and stow it someplace on rides. If there wasn't a designated place to put it for a ride, I could always put one leg through a strap and keep it on the floor.

Spoiler alert: The cast member running the Rock 'n' Roller coaster told me there was no need to anchor my bag, since a gum wrapper once stayed on the floor all day due to enough g-force on the inverted part.

My solution is to get a large fanny pack. It can carry a camera, poncho, glasses and other things and you just need to slide it to your side or front when on the rides. I used to carry a backpack but found it to be too hot and inconvient. The fanny pack is the perfect alternative.

Thank you for all your replies. I think I will go with the backpack, I'll just try to be careful not to put too much into it. Now I know it won't be a total pain in the butt to take on rides with me.

When we do take a backpack we always bring our DS's pack because it's smaller than normal and much easier to have to lug around.

Just wanted to know what kind of things do people pack for the parks? I'm trying to decied between a backpack and a waist pack...but I'm not really sure of what kinds of things I'll need room for.

I carry the usual: camera, maps, schedules, itenerary, baby wipes(even though we don't have a "baby" they really can help you cool down if you're hot and sticky), crackers, gum, my cell phone(in case we separate for rides), small toy for son to play with while standing in line, small sunblock to reapply as needed, chapstick with spf, ponchos, autograph book and a sharpie. Not really a lot, at least not to me. That's why I always take the smallest back pack I can find. I'm just not comfortable with fanny packs around my waist.

I always use a fanny pack when I go to a park. I have room for tons of stuff.
I always have:
a small bottle of Sunblock (waterproof and unscented to keep away bugs)
sunglasses w/attached strap and case so they don't get scratched so they don't come off on rides and strap to attach to my prescription glasses
a ziplock bag to keep things dry during rain or water rides
a small box of meds (aspirin, advil, allergy med)/ a couple of bandages
travel sewing kit
tweezers and fold up scissors
my own soap in small travel bottle (unscented since I'm allergic to scented and it doesn't attract bugs )
makeup (eyeliner and powder compact)
camera and film/batteries
travelers checks / cash / debit card / ID
gum
hairpick/small comb (don't take as much room as a brush)
keychain flashlight
room key/park passes for the day
Things that tend to be unmentionable but that women sometime need :)
Lip balm
park map
:)

Add this to the pack: a photocopy of the front and back of your WDW tickets. I left my multi-day ticket in a Fastpass machine. I didn't discover that until the next day approaching the entry gate, an hour round-trip from the hotel where I had left the photocopy. Arggh. I paid the entry fee to get in that day, and the next day I used my photocopy to get a replacement ticket issued.
