When we have to carry our ponchos or jackets to the parks, we carry a backpack. Right now the one we've been using doesn't fit my husband who is 6 ft tall and broad across his shoulders. (It'll be nice to have one we can both use so I'm not stuck carrying it all day!)

Does anyone have a recommendation of one that once on it won't be way too small? We've been to several stores and haven't found anything yet. So anyone have one that they love?

I am 6' 215lbs athletic build I carry a Northface backpack. DW doesn't mind when we switch off to give me a break, she just tightens the straps. Hope this helps. If you need pics of the bag style let me know.

Northface was one that was best we had seen so far. I'll stick with that brand and look into other styles.

Thanks for your help!!!

The Jansport backpacks seems to have longer straps than most. You can usually find discontinued colors on eBags.com for a good price.

As a bonus, they have an excellent lifetime warranty. My DS is a senior in high school and has been using his since 6th grade. He's very rough on it and has torn it up twice over the years. I've sent it back to Jansport a couple of times and it comes back as good as new.

packofjedis,

A backpack idea I had, because of a recent DL experience with a traditional backpack, was to try a sling-type (single strap) backpack.

Maybe someone here can give us their input as to how one of these types of pack can help or hurt the broad shouldered Dis'ers among us.

I had a single strap pack in college and it worked out Ok. Hmmm...wonder what happened to that bag:confused3

I actually thought of one of those too. I didn't know if it would feel heavier than a normal backpack.

I guess I should also say in contrast to my husband, I'm only 5'3" and small framed. So it will need to be a bag to fit us both.

As far as the Jansports, everyone he's tried on makes it look like he's wearing a little kid's backpack. I've looked on Ebags and nowhere does it tell you how long the straps are, so I'm hesitant to order one. I've read that sizing a backpack is all about torso length which is great, but not if they're not going to tell me which torso length the backpack fits (that info came from REI).
