We arrived at the Poly on Fri, Oct 17, anticipating staying at Tahiti but Hawaii opened a day early. The longhouse was wonderful, the staff great, our third floor balcony room offered a lovely view of the castle, etc. All in all, it was sad to leave after only a four night stay, but our memories will sustain us 'til next time.
We did not smell smoke on the third floor (our room, 3502) had a "No smoking" symbol on the door. The rugs in the hall looked new to me. In any case they were beautiful. I doubt if the furniture was new but it certainly was in spiffy condition. The lounge on the second floor was wonderful with great food and service. Friday, opening day, there were few people but lots of food. Saturday and Sunday were more crowded but very manageable with polite, lovely families. (I just saw one woman in a Polynesian bathrobe, pjs, fuzzy slippers, etc. She and her husband left quickly with their food.) We received a Polynesian chocolate bar on arrival and they were kind enough to honor my request for a birthday celebration for my husband: cake, balloons, noisemakers and hats, all left in the room. All in all, it was a wonderful experience.
In answer to your questions about the third floor Hawaii: when we arrived at Valet parking, the gentleman told us that Hawaii was open and that he would check on our room assignment. He came back and said that we were assigned the second floor. I told him that I had requested a second floor room because we were supposed to be in Tahiti and I wanted a balcony. He said that in Hawaii, the third floor was "smoking" and I said I didn't mind. When we went to the room, as I said, there was a "no smoking" symbol on the door. I did not inquire about other rooms on that floor. We were right near the elevator so maybe the rooms on the far end are smoking. Never thought to ask, sorry. Never smelled smoke on our end either.
