Currently we have an 8 night stay at the Poly booked. I recently had some unexpected expensive medical bills - anyone ever do a second booking at a less expensive resort as a placeholder just in case we find the Poly will be too far out of budget??

We're doing this for a 2018 trip. We would love to stay at the Poly but could only do so if a discount becomes available. We have a 'backup' reservation at CR in the garden wing.

Yep, I have a backup reservation for my birthday trip at the end of this month. For slightly different reason
Can't decide where I want to stay and didn't want to loose the room so I booked both, will cancel the one I don't want in the next few days

Thank you all so much!!! I had a TA do my orig Poly booking and when I asked her about this she seemed to frown on it - maybe it's a TA thing IDK. Im just going to do the second booking on my own. I'm thinking POFQ-Riverside. :-)
I love there are places like this for people to help each other and collaborate.
And Happy Birthday @AntieTN!!

So the system lets you have two hotels booked at the same time with the same people? I had asked a Cast Member about doing this since right now I can't get all the nights I want at the same hotel and will probably have to book a second one for one of the nights. But if the other hotel opens up and I want to jump on it and they told me the system will see it as a duplicate and cancel both of my reservations.

The CM was wrong - I've done this multiple times.

I wish they would have more consistent answers I feel like CM are wrong a lot. Thank you for this, it will help with planning since I want to make sure I have a room for all of the days but didn't want to limit myself from getting what I really wanted if it opened up.

Yes - it's almost always better to rely on these boards than the CMs!

Sure. Do it all the time.
Last Thanksgiving kept both because we stayed in 2 rooms, I was listed as an occupant in both of them because of the way the trip worked out I was staying in both of them at various times. DH was coming and going differently than me, DD and DGD. So I moved from a room with him to a room with them. It was never a problem.
No idea why a CM would tell you that. Honestly, the ones on the phone wouldn't have a clue about such things.
Otherwise, you are right too, they don't have very consistent answers even in areas where they should have more knowledge.
I don't bother calling them ever. Just book it online, it lets you do it

Thank y'all

I bet TA's don't like it because I'm sure they only get commission for 1 stay and have to do the work to book 2 and know you'll cancel one later. No idea, just a guess

Yep, that's my guess too.

We sometimes have multiple rooms booked at the same time. If we are going during a busy time and we aren't exactly sure where we want to say I will often book a room at several different places to make sure we can get what we might want and then once we decide for sure I just cancel the others.

I currently have MULTIPLE rooms booked. I have a three way split with AKL, WL , YC as my main reservation. Just in case the finances don't work out I have a POFQ for the entire time. I also have an ASMO for a fill in for AK and a couple different POFQ dates.

As it comes closer to my vacation I will know where my finances stand, and as I delete some of the reservations, the credits will help pay for the rooms!

So let me get this right I can make two reservations and then cancel one without a penalty? Do I have to give a credit card # and do they charge a deposit?

The deposit is only $200 so it's not too hard on the wallet to have a second booking.

I had wanted POFQ Riverside as we had never stayed there but my DH had me reserve CBR even with the construction warnings - we travel the end of April so I am hoping the worst will be over. He loves CBR.

I'm thinking of doing something similar. So they will credit my card when I cancel, right?

With package reservations, you pay a $200 deposit at the time of booking and may cancel anytime up to 30 days in advance.

With room only reservations, you pay one night's rate as deposit at the time of booking and may cancel anytime up to 5 days in advance.
