Hi

When do the kids all go back to school? (I'm in the UK and ours don't go back till September, but was wondering about America)

It varies a lot. Some go year round, but the vast majority go back mid August to early September.

WDW gets a lot of traffic from the northeast, and many of those schools don't go back until after Labor Day, although some of those are heading back a week early this year because Labor Day is so late.

It really depends on what part of the country and even what specific school district. I've heard as early as mid-August and as late as September 9 or 10 this year (Labor Day is very late). It's typically anywhere from mid-August until the first week of September.

It varies by school district. My DD's school starts Aug. 6. Many start up to a month later.

OP, the reason early to mid September is one of the few low crowds left at WDW is because no matter what part of the country one is in, they have generally started school by Labor Day. And most won't take their kids out of school on vacation for the first few weeks.

Labor Day is actually not the latest. A lot of the Northeast starts the Wed or Thursday after Labor Day.

In Florida most schools are early to mid August. Farther north i think they are a few weeks behind.

As others have said, it varies. I teach in NYC and we are back the Wednesday after Labor Day (then out the following Monday and Tuesday because of Rosh Hashanah, but I think we are one of the only if not the only school system out for that and Yom Kippur - and our Spring Break is based on Passover, so we're super late in 15-16), but I have teacher friends in other parts of the country that go back in late July to anytime in August. I have others who teach in year-round schools, so at any time there is a percentage of kids in that district out. Add in homeschoolers who take off whenever, and there really isn't a time that there would be no school-age kids around.

Michigan state law: school can't start until after Labor Day, so Aug 8th here.
