Back to school in the UK?

Hi everyone;

I am from the US- Just got back from Disney (Dec4/9) and am already trying to plan my next trip!

I am thinking about Sept because that is "back to school time" for the kids in the US-- is it the same for the kids in the UK etc??

Yes, mine too. I think most UK schools are "back" from the very start of September onwards. Some go back earlier, in August.

Scotland go back mid August, this year they went back on the 15th.

I am from the North West of England, our son goes back to school the 7th September.

It does vary throughout the UK depend on where you live. Although it doesn't differ by more than a week.

We don't have kids (yet - one on the way !!!!) , and this is exactly how we plan our trips. We aim to arrive in Orlando around 12th Sept (ish) as we know we will be outside of the school holidays. The parks are far quieter at this time.
However, I am sure things will change in a few years time !

We have been from the 9th of September had a week in Orlando and 6 weeks in Miami and the week of weather in Orlando was lovely we didn't have one rainy day and the as for the crowds....... there wasn't any which made it even better

Do UK kids have some type of school break in October? We've noticed larger than normal crowds in October the past few years and someone recently suggested to me that UK kids had some type of school break. Any truth to the rumor?

Yes, we have what's called a half term holiday in October. Some schools have two weeks, some only a week. It tends to be roughly in the middle of October, going through to the end.

We try to go at the October half terms as the parks seem quiet apart from all the Brits with their UK football shirts on!!!

the uk school year is made up of terms each one having a break in the middle,hence half term break the summer break is usaly 6 weeks ,most people refer to it as the 6 weeks holiday.Most schools go back at the start of september so august is a busy time for holidays,the most expencive time of year for us.We also get christmas break about 2 weeks and easter 2 weeks.Plus there is bank holidays (know from being in florida at chrismas that you dont get boxing day the day after christmas day as a bank holiday).Good it make me feel i should have gone into teaching .O and dont forget the teacher training days the kids dont go in those days.And if your child attends a school that is used for voteing on polling day they get anouther day off.And if i had my way you should be able to have your birthday off as well

Weather was fantastic. It was near record highs the first week.
We got married in the 2nd week and the couple of days immediately after the wedding were wet (washout from Katrina). We were in water parks so not too badly affected. In fact we thought we were very lucky as it slightly cooled on the wedding day with a breeze and a bit of cloud cover. Believe me, in 96 deg head, wearing aMorning Suit, it is more than welcomed !!

Sept is our first choice as it is hot and quiet, everything you need in Orlando ! We don't feel put off by Hurricane season although some are. We were there in '02 for Isadore and it didn't really affect the holiday, again just a few rainy days.
