PART 2: WEEK 2 – Feb. 7th Eastern Cruise:

The cast: DH (Randy); DD (Jaclyn); and myself (Ann)

This week was a continuation of our back to back cruises. We had the same stateroom so did not have to pack and we were allowed to stay on board…

Saturday morning we had to do the disembarkation thing where we picked up our passports only to turn them back in again since we were staying on board. We went for the early breakfast so that we could say goodbye to Gary and Gail, then once everyone was off the ship, I did laundry. It was wonderful – I had the entire laundry room to myself, I had four loads and I was able to do them all at once. The whole process took just over an hour… we tried to snooze but we were interrupted a few times by gifts being dropped off (what a wonderful reason to be woken up). First of all, the repeat cruiser gift was given to us again – the towel and pins; then a bottle of wine was dropped off – this was a thank you from the cruise line for doing back to back cruises. We had booked the Romantic Escape at Sea so that gift basket came, then we were sent a fruit basket by the concierge… it just didn’t stop. We couldn’t believe it. We felt like royalty. Then I got a call from the concierge to say if we needed anything at all to let him know – I’m not sure why we got this service but I just thought I’d enjoy it until they realized we were just in a category 6… We were sent goodies – ranging from fruit baskets to chocolate covered strawberries, to little cakes, bottle of champagne, cheese and crackers EVERY DAY!… It’s not like we needed more food in our room but we enjoyed it all. We used our veranda even more this week because we decided to really take it easy (we had to recuperate from all the partying we did the week before!) We went to the Dismeet and there were about 20 people who showed up. It’s so nice to recognize people when you are walking around the ship. We decided to have our own sailaway party from our veranda – we had the nice fruit basket that had been delivered to us and we had brought along some sparkling apple juice. We ordered two of the cheese and cracker trays from room service and had a great time – one would have been plenty for the three of us but we managed to eat it all. We couldn’t believe all the people who were lined up at the Port waving to us… We also got to watch the coast guard accompany us out – I love the sailaway party, but we really enjoyed doing our own this time as well…

For dinner, we had the LAP rotation (because we accompanied our servers from last week - Antonio and Luis). This time our head server was Nadege but John stopped by every night as well… Along with the royal treatment we received in our stateroom, Lloyd, the Manager of all the dining rooms came by every night to see how we were doing. We took the opportunity to tell him how wonderful our servers were and how much we enjoyed John and Nadege…

We took the bottle of wine that had been sent to us to the dining room and Luis kept it on ice for us each night until it was finished.

On Sunday, we enjoyed the Palo brunch with about 12 other Disers... they put us in the private dining room and it was excellent. Kristian from Croatia was our server again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. He's wonderful!!

Because we had booked the Romantic Escape at Sea package, we went to Palo again – this time on Thursday (it is a wonderful meal but I really go for the chocolate souflee because the meals and service are just as great in the dining rooms). We didn’t want to miss another evening with our servers but we wanted to go up to Topsiders one more time (and Clive was giving us a hard time whenever we ran into him that we had to visit him more) so on our Palo night, we went up to Topsiders to enjoy their ceasar salad (we don’t really like the salads or appetizers that are offered at Palo anyways). We had a great visit with Clive, then we went to Palo and enjoyed our main course there… It was semi-formal night so we were all dressed up in Tux and Gown and the servers at Topsiders really appreciated that… Our daughter wanted to eat in the dining room by herself (I had booked our Palo reservation at 7 pm so that we could join her for dinner first since we had our own table this time) but she was adamant that she wanted to eat dinner by herself – she knew that Antonio and Luis would take great care of her – and they wanted her to join them as well… Our baby is growing up… They doted over her even more than usual if that is possible, and she had a great time… I’m sure those seated around us thought we were terrible parents to send her there by herself but it was really her choice and she loved it…

Along with the Romantic Escape at Sea, came the couple’s massage… This was great. We get massages regularly at home but I can honestly say this was the best ever… I will definitely do it again… We were so very relaxed. We then went into the Rainforest Room. I didn’t really like it and was very glad that I hadn’t purchased the week long pass. I know that many people really like it, but it wasn’t for me… While I’m talking about the Romantic Escape At Sea, the night you go to Palo, they give you a romantic turndown. This consisted of rose petals on our bed and in the tub and the towel animals were kissing swans (shaped like a heart) and another towel made into a heart on our daughter’s bed. It was a very nice touch.

Our at sea days were again spent by the pool or on our veranda. We went to see three movies (Brother Bear, Miracle, and Calendar Girls) and since we have seen all the evening shows, we only went to the Golden Mickeys again… This is such a great show and we were interviewed by Rona Rivers on the Red Carpet.

In St. Maarten – we went to Orient Beach. Supposedly this was the family section of the beach but there were LOTS of people wandering around and suntanning with alternate clothing arrangements if you know what I mean … It was very windy, and although it is a nice enough beach, I wouldn’t spend the cab fare to go back to this beach. I don’t see what all the fuss is about. In my opinion, the public beach in Philipsburg is just as good. We also did a fair bit of shopping for souvenirs at this port, etc. because there are some great buys.

In St. Thomas we went to the beach at the Marriott Hotel. This beach is wonderful and we had a great time playing in the waves. We also did a bit of shopping here.

Castaway Cay – the weather was PERFECT!! Wow!! Jaclyn again wanted to go to the club, so off she went, and we went to Serenity Bay. Then it was my turn to go Parasailing. I was so nervous, but once I got up there I didn’t want to come down. It was a wonderful experience, and I would do it again…

We rebooked for the Dec. 18th Christmas cruise and the Feb. 12th Western. I’d like to do a back to back again and I’m sure we will in the future. When we were getting of the ship on our last day (which was very emotional when we had to say goodbye to Antonio and Luis), our daughter asked if we couldn’t stay for just one more week – instead of spending it in Orlando…

I’ll just quickly say that the disembarkation is a snap, and very soon we were on our way to spend our last week of vacation in Orlando at the Royal Palms.

Last minute thoughts and tips:

 The over the door shoe holder is an excellent way to keep your counters organized…
 Don’t feel like you need to eat all the time just because it’s there – we went for a late breakfast and skipped lunch most days… I felt a lot better than our first cruise when we ate 3 meals a day every day and always felt full.
 Don’t miss the Palo Brunch – it’s excellent
 Sunscreen is a must even on a cloudy day
 If you want to rebook on board but don’t want to stand in line, you can call the rebooking agent, leave a message about what you want to book, and she will call you back to confirm. If you don’t know what you want, she’ll still do it all by phone with you. It’s much easier this way.
 Don’t forget to have a Conk Kooler at Castaway Cay. If you don’t drink, you can have the non-alcoholic version.
 Don’t feel like you have to do everything. You can always re-book to do what you didn’t do the last time.

I know that I have so much more to say but maybe I’ll end here and if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I’m sorry for the rambling and if I skipped back and forth. Next time I’ll be more diligent with my note taking… Because of the disboards we have made wonderful friends, and have enhanced our disney cruise experiences.

WOW! What a wonderful time you had. The report was great . I dream about doing the back to back cruise someday. You never know! Can you tell me how old your DD is? We will be going in Nov. and my DS will be 11. He too wants to go to the dining room with his sister(7), while hubby and I do Palo. I'm thinking we will join them for drinks while they eat, then go to Palo. We still have some time to think on this. Thanks for the report!

Hi - My DD is 10... The servers will take great care of your kids ... if they need any help with anything (such as cutting meat, buttering buns, or whatever) they will take care of that as well...You will thoroughly enjoy yourself... Please have a chocolate souflee for me...

HI ANNIE!!
Very nice report. We had a great time at Brunch - wished that we had scheduled a second for the end of the cruise so that we could all compare notes on the week's activities.
I hope that you are surviving your winter - it's been a not so balmy 50-60 degrees here over the past several days. I'll wave to the Magic the next time that I drive past her for you.
Take Care and so nice meeting you,
Dawn Hope

Interested in information on back to back cruises.
Does Disney automatically upgrade you?
Is there a price break on back to back cruises?
Will Disney ever have another route? I love the Western but not fond of the Eastern.
Thank You

Thanks for the vote of confidence Annie12345. One more question though. What did your DD do when dinner was over? Were you also finished and met up with her or did she check herself into her club?

Annie, I assume Karyn (kabuli) invited you over to our 18 Dec Christmas cruisers thread, but if she hasn't, COME ON OVER and join the gang! I'm so glad you enjoyed the back to back cruises! Sounds like a wonderful time for you all.

And my DS is 10 now so, he should be just about your daughters age on the cruise.

Great report Annie - I'd love to do back to back cruises some day!

I'll second Lisa's invitation - come on over and play with us on the 10 day thread!

If you drop me an e-mail or pm with the following details: names and birthdays of those cruising, anniversary date, cabin number, early or late seating and anything else special you'd like I'll add it to the data I use for our monthly newsletter. When I get your info I'll seed you the password. You can check out the main page by clicking on the monorailgreen link below and then select 10 day Christmas Cruise.

Once again - great report. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!

Annie, I really enjoyed your posts, thanks for all the infor.

I also posted this question on Gina's thread.

Where exactly did you dock at St. Thomas and St. Martin. There are some questions on another thread. I know that they do change things up, but it would be nice to know. Especially the St. Thomas one.

Thanks, Lorie

Lori - when we were in St. Thomas we had to tender in... Our server told us that every other time they dock in St. Thomas they tender. The nice thing was that the tender boats took us right into town. When we docked in St. Maarten, we docked at Philipsburg (I'm not sure what the dock was called but it was a few steps from the water taxi). It was $3 per person to water taxi to Great Bay Beach and the downtown area. With the water taxi, you have unlimited use of the service back and forth for the $3 fee.

WDWLVR and Lisa - thanks for the invite. I will be sure to check out your thread very soon... I started reading it but will never get caught up, so I'll just have to start fresh... My DH is goofyaboutmickey7 and he will be posting as well...

Jerry - our DD went to the kids club when she finished dinner and the counsellor paged us to let us know that she had arrived.

Bruce - We didn't get a break on the back to back cruises... we did book the same stateroom then Disney upgraded us for the second week but we turned it down because I didn't want to pack up and move and we liked our location. We were already in a category 6 and they were going to upgrade us to a category 4. Hopefully they will remember us with an upgrade in the future... I don't know why we were upgraded to concierge service but I'm assuming it was because we stayed on for the second week... Disney is changing their itinerary for some of the Eastern weeks...

Dawn - it was so nice meeting you and your daughter... we will get through winter shortly, and we are looking forward to spending Christmas on the Magic...

Happy cruising....
Annie

Great report! I enjoyed both parts. Thanks for posting.

Annie,
Excellent report-I enjoyed reading it so much. Your daughter sounds a lot like my younger DD who is 11-independent for that age. I hope my daughter has as nice a time as yours!
Thanks again.:wave2:
Kathy

Hi Kathy - I'm glad you enjoyed the report... I'm sure you will all have a fabulous time.... It's important for the kids to go to the club the first night so that they make friends right away, then they will be set for the week... Have a great cruise,
Annie

Great trip reports, Annie. Thanks for sharing.

Just out of curiousity, did you prefer one cruise over the other (Eastern vs Western) and If so, why?

We have done Eastern and loved it. Next time will probably be Western because of spring break schedule. Just wanted to get some thoughts on this.

Thanks!
Tink
:D

Am envious of your guys! We did the back-to-back last year, and were going to do it again, but due to circumstances - had to just have the Eastern (6th March) and a week in Orlando. We had a wonderful cruise (Eastern is by far the prettiest route), and then waved the Magic off at the Harbour entrance pier on the 13th. (Yes, it was late leaving, due to barge blocking the entrance!)

We will hopefully do another back-to-back as soon as possible - if daughter decides to do yet another contract on board!

Glad you had a great time! Nat:Pinkbounc

Hi Nat - Do you remember us from last year? You gave us the idea to do the back to back cruises...

Hi Tink - Both are so different (and so wonderful) so here are my pro's on each one...

Eastern: more sea days; excellent shopping; beaches nearby

Western: I like the longer stops at Key West and Cozumel so you don't have to start out so early and rush back; LOVE Cozumel - Paradise Beach is amazing; Grand Cayman beaches are beautiful. We are beach people and we like the beaches better on the western.

We do like both the eastern and the western equally so we will make our future choices based on the dates we want to go instead of the itinerary. We booked the Western for next February since that's when our daughter will be out of school...

Happy cruisin...

I'm jealous of your back-to-back!! Thx for sharing!!!

Wow, am so pleased you got your 2 weeks on the cruise! Isnt it just great?

We wanted to do it this year, but had to change at the last minute. A week was lovely, but 2 would have been better!

However, we TOO hope to go on another back-to-back next Feb with some pals, so may catch up with you after all!

Wish we were back there now: the sun is shining here in UK, but the temps feel like the Arctic!

Nat:Pinkbounc

Thanks so much for the update, Annie. I'm a beach person too! :smooth:

I'm so happy you said the Western has beautiful beaches - yeah!
