The second half of our 8 day vacation (6/25 7/3) was spent at the Yacht Club(6/29-7/3). Our crew consisted of DH, DD (25) and DD (10) and me.
After spending four nights at the AKL, we requested our luggage be moved to the YC for the last half of our stay. Begrudgingly Bell Services at the AKL obliged and we were off.
We left the AKL around 10:30 a.m. and took a taxi to the YC (it was easier than taking a bus to the park and then transferring to get to the YC). When we arrived at the YC, we were greeted by CMs as we exited the taxi. We informed them our luggage was being transferred sometime during the day and we wanted to check-in at that time. They directed us as to where to check-in once we entered the lobby.
As soon as we entered the lobby, we fell in love with the YC. There was no one in line at the check-in desk so we were able to walk right up. The CM who assisted us was Eric and he was fabulous! We were scheduled for a water view room and he explained which rooms were available since we didnt know too much about this resort, we left it up to him to pick out the best room for our family. Eric told us if, once we got to the room, we didnt like it to just let him know and he would relocate us. Our room was 3087 and our balcony looked down on the gazebo, we could see the lighthouse (where the boats dock to take you to the Boardwalk, EPCOT or MGM), the Boardwalk and we had perfect viewing of Illuminations from our balcony THANK YOU ERIC!!!!
The room was a connecting room (but no one was next door), it had a 4 drawer chest next to the closet, a good sized closet, and drawer space in the area where the t.v. sat. The desk had a table under it that pulled out and made more table space if needed. There were two queen beds in the room and there was also a chair with ottoman which was good to relax when waiting for others in the family to finish getting dressed. The other thing we liked about the YC, is the refillable mugs were right on the table next to the t.v. If we wanted one, all we had to do was unwrap it we didnt have to go to Beaches and Cream or Hurricane Hannahs to purchase the mug they were right there!
We went down to check out Stormalong Bay and then walked over to EPCOT. When we returned from EPCOT, we checked with Bell Services on the way to our room and was told our luggage had arrived and it was delivered within minutes of us leaving the Bell Services desk.
On the second day of our visit, our maid left characters made out of our wash cloths. DD wanted to taken them home with her (we didnt).
Three of the four days we spent at YC, we went to the pool. The first time was late in the day we checked in (around 4 or 5:00 p.m.). No one checked our i.d. and there were numerous chairs recently vacated. The pool is warm and the sandy bottom at first seemed strange, but we quickly acclimated to it. We swam around for about an hour and then went back to our room to get ready for dinner.
The second day we went in was in the mid-afternoon heat. The pool was more crowded (we found two chairs for the three of usDH stayed in room to nap) with no problem. They had volley ball and other activities for the kids in the section of the pool nearest the slide. DD met two friends from her dance class and they spent the afternoon in the pool together. Oldest DD and I just floated in the pool. On this day, they were checking room keys and issuing wrist bands to ensure only resort guests were using the pool. On the last day we used the pool we had PS for Goofys Breakfast Bash at the Beach Club. After breakfast, we spent most of the morning and part of the afternoon in the pool (until we looked like prunes) again they were checking room i.ds and issuing wrist bands. We went to Beaches and Cream around 11:30 for a light lunch (if you can call ice cream lunch) and was able to get seated at the counter with no wait. By the time we left, the take out line and those waiting for a seat was quite long. We were able to use our refillable mugs at Beaches and Cream very easily.
I had one minor problem with my room key in that the magnetic strip no longer worked while at the park (okay, I was buying something). When I returned to the resort, Eric was at the front desk again and he replaced my card promptly. That is the only negative thing that happened the entire time at the YC.
I dont know how they keep the floors in the YC so clean and shiny, but this hotel was extremely clean. The Cast Members throughout the hotel were very friendly from the check-in desk, to the maids, bell-men, pool attendants and gift shop.
We very much fell in love with the YC and would return there in a heart beat. If I missed anything you want to know just ask!
