Back from WDW. I've got a few questions and comments.

It didn't affect my vacation except for the rides stopping midway thru... which really is a buzzkill after it happens a third, fourth and fifth time.

I'm just stating my opinion, which I have a right to do.

Did I say you couldnt ?

Now you know which rides to avoid... :thumbsup2

And to the other poster:
And do I have a medical degree? NOPE. But I do have common sense.

It's QUITE clear that you don't have either.

The thing I dont get, I guess, is, how does this have an impact on YOUR vacation ? People dont get preferential treatment because they're using an ECV. Just different lines in SOME rides. It's been said over & over on the DIS that being on an ECV does not mean you'll get in front of the line. And it's DISNEY people they're not about to run out of ECVs. Yes they can be dangerous if someone doesnt know how to drive, but that's true for anyone not just fat people.

When we were there in May my 5 yo got hit by one of the ECV's. Ended up with 2 scraped knees and 2 scarped hands. The kid on it obviously had not used one in the past.
I don't have a problem with people who need them using them, but my son got hit by another kid who was very obese. The whole family was using them. I saw the kid later running around the smoking section. If he had a medical need he had a miraculous healing in the 2 hours between the time he hit my son and when we saw him a couple hours later. :confused3

I've been to France and I loved it. I thought the people were a lot nicer than the world makes them out to be, as long as you showed courtesy first as a guest in their country.

And I'm no skinny Minnie.

What I'm wondering is why don't they have the overabundance of extremely obese people there like we do here in this country? Maybe our country makes it too easy?!?!

Maybe we should have printed out neon signs for them to wear broadcasting their "NEED" for the chairs so the judgementak folks could relax

Sounds like a good idea. And moms with autistic children should get them neon signs too because from what I've read they get the same looks from other people in line. I guess you need to have a cast to be considered REALLY handicapped.

Disneygal, Kids aren't supposed to be driving them, to the best of my knowledge. Definitely not rentals, anyway. The thing is, and I'm not saying in this case, that you can look fine and not be able to endure the parks, physically. Early in one of my pregnancies, I rented an eCV for an afternoon. I was feeling hot and nauseous, and wanted to keep up with my family. Had you seen me that evening, I would have appeared to be fine and dandy, 'cuz I was.

That is the point so many are trying to state.

The other problem with those things is that they have no brakes. If you walk in front of one, the driver cannot stop on a dime. I just love the folks that walk in front of my mom, and then give a dirty look when she narrowly misses them!

blah blah blah.

if it makes you feel better to think that i'm the devil, then so be it.

normal people around here know that i'm not complaining about the ECVs as much as I'm complaining about the sad state of affairs our culture is in.

Yes, yes.. to hell with all the autistic children and cancer patients in the world. Let them be damned with all the people who can't control their habits.

Maybe I should go gather up all the drug addicts I can find and bring them to WDW. I'm sure that the Hep C that they get from sharing needles would be considered a disability. :rolleyes1

To be honest, I'm not at all bothered by folks using the ECV's for ANY reason they choose. What business is it of mine? Just please drive safely and we'll all get along fine!

I agree. What business is it of mine or anyone's if someone wants to rent an EVC (whether you think they need it or not)? And I do agree those on the EVC's should drive safely and not fast.

Last May while on our first trip to WDW my dh needed a wheelchair because of leg problems he was having due to some medication he was taking. I couldn't believe how rude some folks were to him in the wheelchair (and to me for pushing the wheelchair - and I was careful not to run into anyone)! We would stay in line along with everyone else (unless it was noted "wheelchairs this way") and actually got pushed out of the way so many times by so many people just so they could get in front of us. These were not only kids but adults too! I'm sure they looked at my dh and thought "why the heck are you in a wheelchair?" because on the outside he looks healthy (not overweight or anything).

For our next trip we've rented an EVC for him and I'm sure we will "run into" (not literally but figuratively) run into some more rude folks who will look at him in the EVC and judge him incorrectly. But you know something - we won't let them ruin our Disney vacation!

So my 2 cents...mind your own business when you see someone in a wheelchair and/or EVC and be courteous...because (God forbid) one day you might be in the position where you will need a wheelchair/EVC and you wouldn't want anyone judging you or being rude to you.

No flames please - just my opinion.

I understand that and I don't have a problem with people using them, but I was holing my sons hand and we didn't walk in front of them, they came up from behind and the kid(9/10 yo) hit my son. Why do you assume it was our fault and not the driver of the ECV? The worst part is the kid laughed as my son bled. I have a family member that needs one so my kids are aware of them and know better then to walk in front of one.

They have them, they're just not as visible because

1. It's harder to get a job when you're fat (refusing someone a job because of weight is not considered discrimination here) so forget paying $1200/month for rent in a major city.
2. We get stared at constantly so most of us do not venture out too much.

If you go to a city in the north or in the banlieues you will see a lot more fat people that inside Paris, for example.
I wasnt speaking generally for the rudeness. In Disneyland Paris you will see what I mean. People cutting in line constantly, little kids and teens yelling obsenities (and I'm not a prude by far), and it's dirty. I have been several times as we live really close by, and whenever our friends from the US and Canada visit they always want to go.

Anyway.. I'm getting way :offtopic: here.

And let it be known that I was never rude to anyone, and didn't even give a dirty look. THAT would be awful, b/c like I said in the first post.. I don't know anyone's true reasoning of being on an ECV, and who am I to make assumptions on individuals?

But if you think that all the morbidly obese people using them have pre-existing conditions that caused them to become that way, well then you're sadly naive.

I'm sorry! I didn't mean to insinuate that at all! Please forgive me. I just added that in the end, because so few people realize those suckers aren't able to stop.

BTW, I am impressed you didn't go after that child for laughing!

Let us know when you are done making prejudiced and judgmental comments about overweight people.

Then we can start on smokers and foreign language speakers.

Once those catagories of people are properly ridiculed and demeaned, we'll get on the really exciting portion of the thread, dealing with age, religious practices, ethnicity and sexual oriention. Of course, sometimes these people are tough to identify exactly.

The hardest ones to identify for judgement however are the 'holier-than-thou' judgmental types.

You don't know who they are until they sign onto a post...or open their mouths.

I have no expierence with renting or being hit by an ECV. Can the drivers be reported for not operating the machine safely? If not, maybe Disney should intstitute this policy. If two complaints are issued about a driver the ECV should no longer available to that person and their deposit should be forfeited. Maybe then persons driving them would be more careful if they know the machine could be taken away.

That's a great idea!!! I don't think Disney will do it but it's a great idea!! And maybe the kid had a medical problem, but when I saw him running around jumping on and off benches 2 hours after he hit my son it made me :furious: Right, wrong or indifferent it did.
