Well hopefully some full trip reports will be on their way but here are the sky high highlights and the way down lowlights of the holiday.

Lows

Waiting for 3 and a half hours at La Quinta Lakeside after picking up the villa keys because the other car got VERY VERY lost and we had no back up plan of meet point.

Driving back from Disney on Friday the 13th in terrible storms which were the forerunners of hurricane Charley and hearing on the radio that there was a severe and immediate threat of tornados around disney and the 192 (which is exactly where we were driving)

Discovery Cove cancelled on my cousins 16th birthday due to Charley and no available rebooking slots during our stay  Both girls (and I) were absolutely devastated at this, they had been looking forward to this and it was Elizabeths birthday treat. OBviously we were thankful to have got through the hurricane with minimal damage to the villa or us but nevertheless this was the worst moment of the holiday.

Highs

The Disney Cruise Line and particularly Castaway Cay! Just stunning!

Cast Members doing a fantastic job. Particularly Clara at Animal Kingdom who let my younger cousin work the tills and talked for ages to her then gave her a trainee cashier certificate!

Staying overnight at Portofino Bay and getting FOTL access at Universal and IOA.

Entertainment book - some really good discounts, paid for itself 10 times over at least!

Villa - we had booked Calabay Parc but instead we got High Grove Villas almost at the intersection between the 192 and the US27 - despite closeness to the road the traffic noise was minimal and the villa was brand spanking new! - We took the labels out of the fridge, freezer, oven and washing appliances.

Driving - much easier than I thought! (hurricanes notwithstanding!)

Hmmm - I am sure there are MANY more to come but just thought I would post these initial thoughts.

Wow, Mel - pleased to hear you had some highs after all those lows :( . I'd have been suicidal if I'd had to hang around somewhere for 3 1/2 hours after getting off an international flight. It must have been terrible - presumably you had no idea where they were or what to do?

The villa sounds fab - the same thing happened to us the first time we stayed in one. We were taking the stickers off all the appliances and even the cellophane off the lampshades!

Welcome home, Mel :)

What a shame about Discovery Cove :( and what a nightmare not knowing where the other car was for 3 1/2 hours!

I would love to hear more when you are over your jetlag! Particularly about the Cruise, Portofino Bay and what you thought of the parks overall.

Cheers

Karen

Welcome back Mel:wave2:

I know the feeling of having lost someone in Orlando and only then realising we didn't have a meeting point/plan B to my cost too:earseek:

You must have been gutted about DC but as you went on the Disney cruise you had fantastic memories in abundance too::yes::

Welcome back.

Glad you had a great time. Shame about Discovery Cove though.

Hi Mel

Looking forward to the full reports :)

Shame about Discovery Cove - you will have to go back to experience it again.

That "Once in a lifetime holiday" (for my aunt and uncle) has become the first trip to Orlando and we hope to go back in a few years *as soon as we can afford to really!* so discovery cove is on the list for then. I tried to call DCL and book the dolphin interaction for our cruise and was told it was all full. When we got aboard we went to the shore excursions desk to be waitlisted for cancellations on the dolphin programme and wonderful CM Craig said he was sure he had seen 9 spaces left... lo and behold they were there and we took 6 of the last 9 spaces! I could have kissed him!

We loved the blue lagoon dolphin excursion but i am still really hoping to do DC one day!

Night night all - off to bed. I have been a good girl and not gone to sleep in the day to try to get my body clock back on track ASAP!
