Back from the World 7 pounds heavier... and still full... 13 days of DDP

Thanks for sharing your opinions with us.

I've noticed it takes a lot of nerve to post reviews of ANYTHING around here, be it food or favorite ride, and I commend you for doing it. It seems there's always someone more than willing to imply you're an idiot for liking something they don't. Different strokes, folks, different strokes. What a boring world it would be if we all loved WPE, Tonga Toast, Dole Whips and being on the Orange Team on Mission Space.

WTG.:thumbsup2

Thanks to everyone for their kind words and support. And on the heels of that I have to say I really don't get the dole whip love. Had it for the first time this trip, we have never had room for it before, we seem to be full almost of the time on the DDP. It was okay.... but that was all, we all agreed on that. I was disappointed I didn't love it! Now I can't join that fan club either.. What I think they should have at WDW that we have at the zoo here are Screamers - they are soooo good. It's a slurpee (various flavours, my favourite being lime or orange) 2/3 slurpee, 1/3 soft serve vanilla ice cream. Heaven. So I can understand, even if I don't share, people's passion for the Dole Whip, mine is just for Screamers.

Okay, back on track for a fast review:

Chef's de France - loved the restaurant, wasn't so keen on the service. The server seemed irritated that we were there, but that's okay - the food prevailed. For apps we had the cheese plate, meat plate and smoked salmon. Fabulous - enough to share without ruining the appetite. DD had the cheese pastry - a cheese filled puff pastry, pretty big and very yummy and considered herself quite adventurous for trying it. Salmon wasn't what I expected but rather chopped up and put into a timbale shape but still good. For entrees I had the salmon and scallop entree - very small, I think only two scallops and one tiger shrimp on a skewer but perfect size when you're having three courses - I could eat two of them right now, cooked perfectly. DH had steak and declared it more flavourful than Le Cellier. DS had the duck, it went over okay, but that was more that he is not used to duck rather than anything being wrong with it. I'm trying to remember what else we had but creme brulee for dessert but can't remember, maybe we just had three? Anyway, I can never get enough of the stuff so three would have been good with me.
DD of course had chicken strips which she said were the same as everywhere else so she was happy. We had a bottle of wine, kids had pop. Great ambience, reminded us of a restaurant in Paris we had visited. Wonder when it will be renamed Gastons?

CRT - How can you not love the place? I mean really, dining in Cinderella's Castle? What can beat it... also the feeling you are among the priviledged few that were able to score a ressie? When we entered both males were given swords and both DD and I a wand. I was suprised as I was going to plead with them to give DD one as she is 11 now. It was her birthday but they did not do anything special at all but rather recognized everyone in the room that was having a special occasion and just asked them to raise their hands during the show.
We all had pops to drink (first dinner without wine!!!) and for apps I had the spring roll, pretty big but not much flavor, DS had the crab soup, he didn't like it - I happily slurped it up - lots of seafood, very flavourful, great home made fish base. DD had the BLT salad, I make my own version at home and she declared it at least as good, DS had the field greens salad and said it was good. Also had pretzel bread here, I thought it was as good as Le Cellier's even though it comes from a different place. Entrees were lamb chops for DS and myself, I asked for mint sauce - the waiter lamented that he constantly gets asked for it but they don't have it. Herb pesto just didn't do it for it for me, but the lamb itself was good. DS had prime rib - his motto is "when in doubt order prime rib, it's hard to screw up" - he liked it. DD had the tortellini, huge bowl, couldn't get through half of it but really loved it. We ordered two of the pear dessert, and two of the chocolate buckle - buckle won out but the pear was still good. I don't know how anyone could leave there hungry, although I've noticed this on other posts. We were stuffed and hadn't eaten since breakfast and had a 7:30pm ADR and believe me, we like our food. Pictures with Cinderella were a great touch. Show was fun, we ended up through two of them - although there is no opportunity for pictures with Fairy Godmother the mice do come around although very rushed. Only disappointing thing was that when we left we had to stay at the foot of the castle because the firworks were starting in 20 minutes - that was why we had rushed dessert so we could get outside and watch them as we weren't close to the windows. We had a very, very limited view of the fireworks then after they were done we had to wait an additional 20 minutes to make sure there were no shells around. I completely understand the reasoning behind it, I just wish we had been told. Would we do it again? In a heartbeat - food was much better than we had anticipated - and as I said before, you can't beat the scenery.
