Just wanted to post an update about taking my dad to Westchester Medical Center yesterday to see the Chief of Oncology. Thank you to all who sent some prayers - it seems that we finally are getting some answered. The doctor down there said that at this point, the stem cell transplant is not really the best way to go for him right now. In that, he would have to make him sick to make him well. And, that being, the chemo he would have to undergo for the transplant is, get this, 6 months worth in 20 minutes. He said that if he was 40 and not 69, he'd say yes, it's an option but the quality of life issue comes about and if he is going to be so sick there really is no point. At this point, I am all about making him as comfortable as possible for however long. He told us that he since he is responding well to the medication he is on to just keep him on that. Eventually, this medication will stop working and then we will go onto another that he mentioned (slips my mind now) and then when that one stops working there is another. He told us how there are so many new medications out there for this type of cancer...even, are you ready...arsenic. Yes, they have found that arsenic is working to fight this form of cancer.

So, I just thank you for your prayers but ask that you continue to keep him in your prayers. The doctor asked him that aside from whats going on how does he feel and Dad answered that he feels great. I just hope this continues for a very long time :)

Tons of prayers heading your way!! Many positive thoughts too!! :bounce:

I sure will keep your Dad - and the rest of the family in my prayers.. Dealing with cancer is SO hard, but it's great that your Dad has you to guide him along and comfort him..

Hugs.
