:( Well, on the way to Disney, my FIL's truck was hit by someone backing into it and trying to drive away.
No major and really just barely minor damage, but it set the mood! Same place, 4 yr old ds head bounced
off the steps of the play place. He laughed after. Remember, both of the kids have autism, so we were
already nervous.

We got there fine, City Hall was very easy to get the guest card. I got it marked to use fastpass
where available and handicapp entrance where it wasn't. We also asked to have it stamped
for stroller used as wheelchair use! We were afraid of my 20 mos old trantruming while we
carried him. We would learn later just how needed that was. The pass was easy to get. I had
both notes from the dr. but truthfully, the guy only skimmed over one and I think that because I
handed it to him. When I said that both boys had autism, he immediatley handed me the paper
and walked away to get the card. He explained that we could not get ahead of the line and other
stuff. Very nice. We used the card that day, but not the stollers. Crazy me! Dh and learned to do it
later that night. (one word of advice, ask them to stamp the card where they can read it. there were
many times I had to point out where it was stamped as he stamped over other words.) For the most
part, it was great. The only problem we had was at Pirates. The guys name was Vernon, so if you see
him, please kick him for me! We walk up with the stollers and he tells us to go into the line with them
and that the line there was mainstreamed, so that was fine. I told him that it was stamped with a separate
entrace pass when mainstreamed, and he refused to agree with me. Told me that this was the only option.
I told him that my kids had autism and would not be able to wait in line after he told me it was about a 25 min
wait. He rudely told me to come back when it was less busy. HA! I never went back. I and yelled at him the
whole time I was walking away. I told him that why I had the card and I was positive that they had an
exit and we we allowed to use that. I should have reported him immediately to a supervisor, but I was upset.
I knew that I would cry and really didn't care to start off our trip badly! HAHAHAHAHA. Excuse me after
I compose myself after that comment. Oh, and another good thing, I called housekeeping and they even
brought me a microwave so I could pop popcorn for ds. One of the 4 things that he eats. Very nice of them.
We weren't even charged for it or the fridge. We also got connecting rooms because of our situation. I
needed my Inlaws to help watch the kids. We explained that we were afraid to use the neverland club
to go out. Everything to set up was very easy! Again, evil laughter from behind me!

From there let me tell you about the bad parts. Funny thing is everything I stressed about didn't happen and
the things I never thought would happen, ruined it! The first night there, we woke up retching noises.
My 20 mos old is puking in the crib! Housekeeping came for there first of about 20 trips that morning.
After pedialite and sleep he finally held something down about 8 hrs later. After getting up and going that
morning, we go to do stuff with the kids (thank goodness for the passes, or we would not have been able
to have time to do the few things that we did). We managed to get Pooh and Peter Pan in. We go on only
our third ride of the day. And as my husband sits behind me on Dumbo, my 4 yr old puked. Yep! on Dumbo!
We rush back to the hotel. That went on all day and night. The next day he seems to be doing better and
kept saying, "let's go". A new phrase for him. What happened on our very brief outing this day was great.
I'll tell you about that later. Anyway, back to the hotel for more 4 yr old puking. Next thing I now, MIL and SIL
are puking too! By the third day of the 4 yr old puking, DH brought him to the clinic. After hours of Phenegran
not working and him still puking and not drinking or eating in 3 days, I decided to bring him to the ER. He lost
8 lbs. He was only 38 lbs anyway. The suggestion from the dr was to wait until the next morning to do anything.
That would have been about 16 hrs later. I decided to act and good thing. He was puking more by the time
we got to the ER and this was after 2 suppositories. Which were supposed to be one every 12 hrs. Anyway,
how do you explain to an autistic child to throw up? He keep swallowing it! Which only made him feel worse.
He was dehydrated and they drew blood, did an IV and took xrays. He finally started eating last night. The ER
trip was Thursday. Needless to say, our trip was shot. The morning after the ER visit, Dh got sick. We did
take the kids out for a bit, but we went were they could only go in AC buildings and had wet rags and pedialite.
This is where the stollers as wheelchairs came in handy. My poor baby was so weak that he could barely stand
for a min.

So, that was the bad stuff.

The good stuff was that we actually got see Buzz and Woody. I walked up with my card to see if it would be
possible to get in without waiting in the 30+ min line. The guy started telling me that wheelchairs can fit in the
line and we can't use it here and blah blah blah. All I said was the guy that was standing here a few min ago
said that it wasn't a problem and my kids had autism and co... OH wait that's a different story, Say no more!
Less than a min later, we were meeting them. And mom and dad are crying. I still get teary thinking about it.
DH hugged the guy. His name was Jeff from Anchorage. He came to check to see if I was okay. He spoke to us
for while and asked us to hang around. He went and bought ds a buzz tshirt with his own money. I really want
to thank him and I will send a very long letter to disney. He was great. That was really about the hilight of
the week. I spent alot of money to see the hotel alot! I didnt' even get to see Animal kingdom or DTD. But
thankfully, we are home and the kids are doing better.

And at one point while DS was resting, we took the 20 mos old out. We saw Safari Steve! I told DH, I know
him! He responded to my post! He was great! And I didn't dare break his character!

We'll go back in about 5 years! And I won't plan on doing a single thing!

The advice to come back when it was less crowded was not being rude at all unless it was the way it was said. As far as I know there is no alternative entrance to Pirates. Only one way in. That is the reason we have to transfer to a manual chair to ride this ride. There is no other way to the ride entrance and no way to take my powerchair from one side where you enter the ride to the other where the exit is.

Lisapooh, you could very well be right, but there was no need for the shoulder shrug
while saying it. And there's got to be an exit! If this is the case, then I guess this is
one ride we will always just have to skip. No biggie, we were only doing it for the kids
anyway. And I truly don't think that it would have awed them all that much.

I'm so sorry to hear your whole family got sick. It's bad enough if one child is sick, especially if they can't understand what is going on.
There is still confusion among some of the CMs about what the different GACs mean, so things are a little inconsistent.
On Pirates, there really isn't a way to get on that ride without going thru the whole line. For a lot of rides, you can board at the exit. You can't do that at Pirates because after the exit, the boats go thru an area just high enough for the un-occupied boats to go thru. The exit is actually one floor down from the entrance. At the exit, there is a steep moving ramp that goes back up to the surface. There is also an elevator at the exit, but it takes you up to the back of the building, by the street that eventually ends up in front of Splash Mountain. Because DDs wheelchair doesn't fold, we can't take it on the Pirate boat and she refuse to use one of the folding wheelchairs available at the ride antrance, so we have already carried her thru that whole line. On our last trip, we asked if there was any way to get her wheelchair to the exit. The CM finally decided that since her wheelchair is rather small and light for an adult size, he could toss it on the boat after we got on and that's what we did. If there was any easier way to get on, I'm sure they would have used it.

First of all, I'm very sorry that you had so many bad experiences. I know Vernon. I'm not going to kick him, because he is very big. I am sure that he meant no harm, but simply did not understand what you were asking for. Pirates' line is mainstreamed, so the only alternate access requires calling a manager or someone who is on break. I'm not trying to excuse Vern, but they may have had their hands full at the moment.
Now that that's covered, Where did you see me? Why didn't you say anything? I love to meet people from the boards (and I can do that without "breaking character")... How did you know it was me? I only worked one day last week. The week before that I worked several days. Where was I????? Feel free to just e-mail me.
Kungaloosh!

Oh, my! What a trip you had! Well, I hope that everyone is feeling better, and that your next trip is more relaxing.

I though I met Safari Steve once.... but it was an imposter!!!! ;)

The other day I went on Pirates. As soon as a CM saw me, she appraoched me to let me know what I options I had to get on the ride. I had to leave the ECV outside. I was able to walk into the attraction. as we exited form the boat, I noticed the boat goes through a small opening - not big enough for a guest to sit inthe boat - to get to the area where guests get on the ride. That may be a reason why guests cannot get on the ride at the exit area.

Oh my golly! SOME good. LOTS OF BAD! I would have LOVED to meet Steve! I am so sorry to hear about the flu bug - that must have been terrible.

RE: Pirates - We've been taken in three different ways - mainstream with the walking kids - and with DS - once to the right down a tunnel, and once to the left through the back gate!

Like Steve said, both times, the CM had to leave his or her post. The first time the CM was wonderful... this last time, on our M-A-W trip, we had a bit rougher time getting anyone to care much.. but eventually we got to go. Where there's a will there's a way...

Like you, there are times I feel like I could burst into a yell (usually an argh will do it...) with frustration - or burst into tears because of the special treatment! It's a no win situation for me - my emotions are always on full throttle when at WDW!!

I hope things are settling down now!

okay, Steve, so maybe it was an imposter. As I just sat here and typed and deleted, I thought you
worked at Haunted Mansion. But realizing that your name is SAFARI steve, You probably don't work there and work in Animal Kingdom or something like that. Anyway, There was a taller guy named Steve
working at HM and he was very good! Please don't actually kick the guy. I was tired and upset
from being puked on.

I don't really remember the day either. Monday maybe. I don't know. The days of vomit are
all kinda mushed together.

But even if it wasn't you, it was fun thinking so!

Safari Steve works on the Jungle Cruise in MK. He also works at the Haunted Mansion; when he is there, he magically turns into Spooky Steve.

Every time we have been to the Pirates, there have only been minimal staff on. Either the greeting CM, boarding CM or Unloading CM would have to leave their post to get us on in a different way. It's not a well designed place for anyone who has special needs.

As you probably know by now my two have are autistic. I remember exiting in an elevator & not knowing where to go. The wait in line was terrible. My son's stroller doesn't fold so they walked it to the exit for us. (After waiting in line for an hour they had to do something.) I'm sorry, to those people in front of us that my son abused. Shame on you for trying to have us thrown out of the park. We don't do Pirates anymore!

So sorry to hear how sick your kids were. I'm sure that made everything much worse. My S was diagnosed with PDD so I completely understand about him not understanding when he is sick. As for the Pirates you probably wouldn't have minded as much if the guy had just explained politely. It's funny you can experience something like that anywhere. I know I get looks at stores sometimes because S is "stimming" off something in the store and I'm yelling at him to keep in my eye sight and you get the "can't you control him look". In our experience 99.9 percent of Disney folks are great so it can be a shock when it doesn't go very well. I'm sure your next trip will be much better. I've have found the responses to your post really interesting. I am learning alot from all of you in planning my trip. We tend to do rides very early or during a parade and if there is any bit of a line we come back. One thing we have found is to do rides right before closing, especially Fantasyland. We walked on everything. Best to your family.

I'm so sorry about all the illness yoour family experieced!! It's tough any tiime but when you have paid a bunch for vacation and all you see is the inside of the hotel room it is really frustating!!

We too were sick Dd puked all over the Toontown store at the entrance to??? something I can't recall?? It was a mess, the poor CM's were so busy checking people out they had to call for extra help!! and then they called for a wheel chair to get Dd out of the park. I had to buy a 2xx shirt there to get it long enough so Dd could wear it like a dress out of the park!!! Then that afternoon I got sick!! with the same puking stuff Dd had, only it hit me so hard I puked and slept for 2 days!!

Then a few days later Dd was complaining of a knifing pain in her ear, we visited Celebration Hospital Eternity room got there at 9:00am didn't get seen till 4:00pm by a nurse practioner. Then next morning the drops prescribed were not helping,So we went by ambulance[free,a disney perk] to the Sandlake Hospital, and Dd was seen in 20mins by a Doctor who said she had an acute case of swimmers ear.[ And all that cost 1/2 what of what it did at Celebration!!!!!]

Dd was out of it for 2 days, then she was so weak she needed a wheel chair to go to Ak for a couple hour

Do you think it's the water?? or just the creepin'crud? That So,many of us get so sick at WDW??:( :(

My thought was it was the water and since both DS have sensitive stomachs that's what happened.
However, when it hit the three others, I knew it had to be a virus. We were seen immediately at
Celebration, but the dr insisted that he was nauseated from the ear infection. Which by the I am
sure he didnt even have. Maybe a small touch of swimmers ear since he's never actually been in
a large pool to get water in his ears. He was given an antibiotic with the IV fluids, so I am sure it
wiped it out. We never managed to get his medicine in him and he doesn't have an infection now.
So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I so sorry for you guys. But you did make me feel better knowing
that I am not the only ones that had to be cleaned up after. Nice of them with the wheelchair and
the ambulance ride! WOW!

Saymama,
You don't have to get in a large pool to get swimmer's ear. You can get it just from bathing or showing. Water gets caught in your ear canal and the moistness allows bacteria to grow. I used to get it frequently until I started using ears drops. Alcohol/vinegar 1:1 It works!
