Back last night, we had a really lovely trip and feel thoroughly Christmassy now! I cant think of any lows, the weather was mild and mostly sunny, crowd levels were far lower than I had expected, there were no attraction closures that affected us and we enjoyed every minute.
The Christmas decorations are beautiful, classic and elegant at the entrance and along Main Street then wintry and fun in Central Plaza. I adored the simple frosted trees in Town Square with their little white lights glistening at night time and spent some time wondering how long it took to wind the lights all along the branches and whether we could achieve the same effect at home.
The new Christmas tree is fabulous, a spectacular and colourful display and much easier to view with no need to queue beforehand. DS missed the Christmas dressed characters from the old tree lighting ceremony and I missed Chante, c'est Noël but overall think it is an improvement. Still nothing like standing in Main Street watching the beautiful tree with snow falling down through the street decorations on everyone!
Love the cavalcade too, especially from Main Street with the snow falling again.
Disney Dreams of Christmas was amazing and made a nice change to have a complete seasonal variation. Glad we saw Frozen beforehand and I just love that song from it. For me, that is the only really emotional song in this version of Dreams but it is certainly colourful with some fantastic effects. I think my favourite bit was when all the trees around lit up too in brilliant colours.
Mustn't forget the parade with the Frozen float and some great characters that come and interact with the public well. One of Berts dancers handed DS her tambourine to shake. It was too quick and I was too close to get a decent photo though. After watching a parade I always feel as if I have done a workout as DS is so excited and waves wildly and I have to try and restrain him a bit!
We met all the Christmas-costumed characters I think with the exception of Sally who we missed and also missed at Halloween but DS was very happy with those he did see. We also went one day to see the breakfast crew we had had so much fun with in the Golden Forest breakfast room at Halloween and whilst at the SL met Goofy in the meet and greet. He was so funny with DS and I got some photos myself but bought three of the professional ones from this session as they were fabulous.
We had our photo taken in front of the castle by a Disney Volunteer. Never seen these before but they were very friendly and its a great idea. Wouldn't mind being one myself if anyones interested!
We stayed at the HNY and were very pleased to be in a room of our request. We had stayed there in May and had a ground floor room in Gramercy Park looking out on the courtyard garden and had requested a similar one this time. Like another poster mentioned, in some ways I prefer the SL the décor is prettier, but it is so nice to be really close at this time of year. As DH has to spend a lot of time in the room (he cant walk much) DS and I could use the garden door of our room as a short-cut to and from the Village entrance. The room is bigger too than the SL or NBC and has the advantage of a table on either side of the bed and hand basins actually inside the bathroom where you need them. We requested a kettle but there is nowhere easy to plug it in, we had to have it on the floor by the bathroom door which wasnt really safe. And talking of safe, that safe is just ridiculously small and annoying with a key but I am sure that, like the TV will be upgraded soon. While we were in the room one time someone knocked and asked to see which bedspreads we had and when we went out into the corridor there were different ones and cushions piled up so these are obviously already being replaced. Incidentally, somebody asked about cots recently and in our closet there was a folding cot but not an ordinary travel cot, quite a substantial metal framed one on wheels. Wi-Fi in the room was faster than we have at home too! I love breakfast in the Manhattan restaurant and the public areas had some very pretty Christmas trees so we were very pleased with our choice of hotel for this trip.
Happy Christmas everyone!
