Just got back yesterday.
Had an excellent stay at POR, 13 nights. Room was ready at 11am. We were in the Alligator Bayou section, as 5 of us, building 39 2nd floor facing the quiet pool and a corner room. The area was really quiet and peaceful and having the quiet pool and laundry step away was great. Food court was around 4-5 minute brisk stroll away which was fine for the first few days, as I enjoyed the scenic walk. I booked Water view as I couldnt stand the possibility of facing a parking lot. The room looked brand new apart from a juice stain on the carpet. It was very clean. Only probs were leaky shower that squealed a bit and basin faucet labelled wrongly for hot n cold. Also the phone speed dial buttons did not work. Reported these things twice, shower was partially fixed as still leaked. Phone was not fixed. Didnt report the faucets being incorrectly labelled. Housekeeping was excellent. We had a towel monkey hanging in our window, and some other creature. Beds were really comfortableand I slept well in them. There was PLENTY of room for 5 of us and our kids are aged 10-16, and we dont pack light. Our 16 yr old who is 5ft 12 slept fine on the trundle.
The main pool was about 2-3 mins walk just round the corner and over the bridge, was busy but not packed out crowded. We preferred the quiet pool though. The girls caught little frogs in the Bayou opposite our building and saw numerous Anoles, Skinks, frogs, turtles, fish and squirrels, but no snakes. The new playground was open and it was great apart from there are no more swings and its like an all in one set, with climbing wall slides, maze game. The girls liked it. We rented water mice and went to Downtown Disney in them and Old Key West. This was good fun but very hot when wearing those foam padded life jackets. Food court was fine. We all had refillable cups, and mostly used snack credits for danishes, fruit cups etc for breakfast but couple of times had plated breakfast which was ok, not excellent. Resort was maintained immaculately, and was busy first week then quietened down. The majority of people adhered to the smoking areas, however a few did not.
I loved the lush landscaping of the resort, and we did stay here a few years ago, but we all preferred the theming and room decor of Carribean Beach with bright colors and tropical plants and buildings. After visiting the deluxes for meals, I would however say that both POR, POFQ and Carribean beach are excllent value for money. Next time I am thinking of trying an ASMU family suite, but would love to stay at a 1 bed at VAKL.
