:cheer2: Back from a 3-night stay at POR with the outer bands of Hurricane Dennis. Hadn't stayed at this resort since 2002. It is as charming and beautiful as always. Mousekeeping was an issue for us, but checkin and food service in the food court was good. It is always a pleasure to stay at this resort. Any questions, ask away!

Welcome back! Just curious....did they fix the Hot tub yet?

Hi,

I was wondering if you would share the details of your mousekeeping issues? We will be staying at POR for the first time this coming Nov. I am not thirlled about staying here but the friends we are traveling with have three children and cannot swing a deluxe so POR was our only choice.

Any details that you would like to share about your stay and observations would be appriciated.

So I would be intersted in your mousekeeping issues too? Were in the mansions or AB?
TIA

welcome back...I too am curious about your problems. I know the General Manager at the PO resorts...he might like to know about those probs.

Hi,
Glad you offered.... :goodvibes
Did you eat at the restaurant? Was is as good as some of the park and deluxe resort restaurants or do you recommend that we skip it?
Did you try the carriage ride at POFQ?
Was there a refrigerator in the room?
Thanks for the info, we plan on staying 01/2006

I am interested in the issues you had with Mousekeeping! We have our first stay there coming up in September. I'm glad the rest of it sounds positive. Can you tell me if you had a fridge in your room and if it had a small freezer section?

I am also one of the many back from POR recently, at the end of June. We have stayed there many times, and I still enjoy the resort. Really love the comfy new mattresses, privacy curtains and fridge that came with the rehab. We stayed in AB 25 and our mousekeeper was great! Every time I wrote a note for additional towels, they were there, stacked with a washcloth fanned flourish. If I found anything an issue, it would have been the bus service. One afternoon 11 buses came before one for MGM finally pulled up, as an example. Of course, part of this is just chance. I guess I am lucky in the fact that I've never had a bad mousekeeping experience there yet.

We will be arriving POR on 7/24, please tell more about the transportation issues. Also, do you have a coffee pot in your room, what type filter does it take? :moped:

Just wondering about mouse keeping too. We go in Oct.

Hi everyone.

Mousekeeping - assigned a room in Parterre Place. I've stayed in this mansion before - very convenient to the main building and main bus stop. Received a lovely room on the first floor in the garden. Opened the door and almost gagged on the cigarette smell (this was a non-smoking room). Called mousekeeping and they came in about 30 minutes just as we were leaving. When we got back the smell was gone and a small fan had been left and was going in the room. The next day (Friday) DD left her watch on the nightstand (yes, she shouldn't have). We left a tip and a note of some extras we needed (towels, pillow, and a box of kleenex since the room didn't have one). When we got back the room had been tidied up, tip was gone, the extras were not there, the kleenex was not provided and the watch had disappeared (DD searched everywhere). We called mousekeeping and they brought the extras later in the day. The next day when we got back from the parks the room hadn't been cleaned, but the watch was sitting prominently on the nightstand. The room never did get cleaned that day. We did call the mousekeeping supervisor and never was able to connect personally, but did leave him a message. This is the first mousekeeping issues I've had at this resort and I've stayed here at least 6 times. I wouldn't worry about this for those of you with upcoming trips. Just be sure to put the valuables away. :earsgirl:

Didn't go to the main pool so I cannot answer about the hot tub.

We tried to eat at Boatwrights but they couldn't seat us until 9:40. Apparently the manager decreases the staff later at night so they can't fill all the tables. Crazy, huh?! So, we ate at the food court and saved a bunch of money. I've eaten at Boatwrights in the past and enjoyed it. The garlic cheese bites are outstanding.

Have not taken the carriage ride, but the carriage is beautiful.

Yes, we had a fridge. It was a good size - a little bigger than the usual small fridge. If it has a freezer section it is VERY small! The fridge was a BIG bonus! :sunny:

We did not have any transporation issues at POR, but then when we stay at this resort, we always prepare ourselves that this resort has 2000 rooms and the buses will be crowded. The buses were PACKED! At MK the first night, the line for POR was at least 3 buses. However, the POFQ line was quite small. We and 4 others rode the POFQ bus and walked the 10 minute walk to Parterre Place. At MGM the next night we waited for 2 buses and had to stand. The buses worked for us though. ::MinnieMo

There was a coffee maker, coffee and utensils in the room. We are not coffee drinkers so I don't know about filters. I got the impression that everything you needed was provided. There was also an ironing board in the room.

The privacy curtain is a fabulous idea! We had 4 adults (DH, DD and DS). The privacy was very welcome! The mattresses and pillows appeared to be new. The carpet and wallpaper also appeared to be new. The furniture was in good condition. :umbrella:

Overall, this has always been one of our favorite resorts. We were a little nervous since we've been staying in deluxes most recently, but aside from the mousekeeping issues, we had a wonderful stay. It was nice to be "home"! :cheer2:

:sad2: Boy, that is some disappointing mousekeeping....Glad the rest was good for you. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for all the great info...
what an interesting mousekeeping experience(!) :sad2: And you would think that the restaurant would be staffed adequately during busy season... I hope that management was listening.
A few more questions, was your mansion the closest one to the main building? Did you always walk to the main building bus stops or use the one closest to your room? Was your mansion #90 by chance? :teeth:

I think Parterre Place is the closest mansion to the main building and the main bus stop. It's a short walk to the bridge and once across the bridge the main building is right there. There are a couple of short cuts that you can take to get through and around the main building.

We used the main bus stop always because it's actually the second bus stop for all stops but Magic Kingdom (bus stops at French Quarter first). Because the resort was PACKED we wanted a better chance for a seat. Also, we felt, believe it or not, that the main bus stop was closer than the closest mansion stop.

The privacy curtain is between the bedroom and bathroom area. It slides across where the safe is. I felt the room was not dark at all. Certainly not as dark as the bayou rooms. And some feel that Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge (my favorite!) are quite dark - this room was not nearly that dark.

By the way, brightest room I've ever had was Beach Club - fabulous room! :cheer2:

Since the OP didn't get a chance to dine at Boatwrights, I can share our experiences there. Breakfasts there are fantastic...best I ever had! For something sweet, I'd recommend the Sweet Potato Pancakes with Pecan Butter, soooo good. I have also seen (but not tasted since bananas upset my tummy) at Stuffed French Toast, stuffed with bananas and served in a strawberry sauce (I heard lots of mmm's from a nearby table). For an egg dish, the Blueprint Omlette is incredible. You can have any or all of the fixins' offered in the huge omlette with fried potatoes and southern style biscuits.
As for dinner, it was fine, but I'm sure there are better choices. My son who adores catfish, couldn't eat the catfish from there. I don't know why because I don't eat fish so I didn't taste it. The rest of us had good food, not great, but a good meal. If at all possible, I would make arrangements for breakfast there.
