Back from Polo Towers.........."Las Vegas"

Just a brief report from Polo Towers in Las Vegas in case any DVC member considers an exchange to there. Just checking e-mails, so I thought I would post before we fly out tuesday morning(6-17).

We are staying with friends that own (timeshare) at the Polo Towers.There are 22 floors, we are staying in a 2BR villa.There is a lockoff connected to our villa. They are very comparable to DVC's 2BR's. We are in the newer section of the Towers. The master BR has a "king size" bed,TV,closet,night stand on each side of bed,4 drawer dresser.

The bathrooms are very nice with 2 sink areas facing each other,with plenty of counter top to put things on.There is whirlpool bath also. Hairdryers are supplied also.

The living room area has a round tablewith 4 chairs,40 inch TV,round sectional couch that sits at least 4,stone coffee table.

The balcony is just to stand on (2-3 people, no chairs)

Kitchen area has the same as the DVC units(stove,dishwasher,frig,microwave,etc)

The pool is on the 22nd floor(top). The Polo Towers themselves are very nicely located.They are next to the MGM, across the street from the Monte Carlo and New York- New York.

I know Vegas isn't an ideal place to go with kids, but this was our first time here, and we loved every minute of our 4 nights here.

The hotels are "exquisite" (Bellagio,Venetian,Ceasers Palace,etc)
I think everyone should experience Vegas at least once in there lifetime. To give you sort of a comparison to the Wilderness Lodge lobby,which I love, most of Vegas's hotels are even better in decorating,etc.

We are not into gambling at all, and I gaurantee we will come back again

, just to see all of the other hotels and do some more shows.

P.S. Temperature was 100-103 degrees all 5 days.

We seen Celine Dion at Ceasers Palace. It was a great show

.Ticket prices for her shows are between $87 to $200.

Glad you're havinf fun. It has been awhiel since I've been there, but i'd love to go back and check out all thsoe cool hotels! Of course, thsoe slot machines always catch my eye...

We were lucky enough not to have to use any points to stay there,our friends own a timeshare there.
But to answer your question, Polo Towers is part of the World Passport Collection(page 160) in our DVC Member Guidebook.

You have to deposit (call member services) one week of your home resort (DVC) with Interval International.
Exchanges are usually in 7 day increments(weekend to weekend),. If you want a 2BR, you will have to deposit pts for a comparable 2BR through DVC(usually Choice, Dream, or Magic season point wise).
You can confirm exchanges up to 2 years in advance, there is a non-refundable charge of $75 to do an exchange.

P.S. Maistre Gracey.........I was in the lobby of Wilderness Lodge in February, and like I said earlier..........the resorts in Vegas put WL to shame...........and WL is the best on WDW property. Just calling a spade a spade.

I guess we must agree to disagree . I have seen most of the Vegas hotels, as I get there for work now and again. I agree many are very nice, but I don't see any that "put WL/VWL to shame". Actually, some look a tad cheesy, in my opinion.

I think you are right about "agree to disaagree" the Venetian and Bellagio are two at the top of my head that are very exquisite. How many other hotels can give you a gondola ride with a person singing to you, going through a hotel and outside,check this link out...... http://www.venetian.com/attractions/gondola.cfm

Celine Dion?!! How was her show?!! I agree that the heat in Las Vegas can be brutal. When we were there in June a few years ago, the temp was 108-120 degrees during the day--then we went up to visit Tahoe, and they had snow on the ground!! Just mounds of it here and there where there had been an avalanche or two, and people picnicking right next to the piles of snow. Maybe it cooled them down?? That's when we decided to vacation where it was cool--so we are going to Florida instead

None of the LV resorts are comparable in terms of dollar value, especially when you can rent a 2 BR easily most times for less than $1000, sometimes much less. And get rooms at those greaat resorts for $49-59 per night much of the year.

Can you tell me did your kids feel out of place at all ? I am thinking of a quick trip during school vacation and just wondering how much your kids liked it.. ( mine will be 10 and 7 ) Thanks Michelle

I've been with my (now) 5yr old daughter several times and there's a few things she likes. There's also stuff for older kids.

At the Mirage, kids can have a great time with the dolphins for a few bucks if you do it right. You'll enter as a group and be given sort of a tour. The key is to stay after the group leaves. Periodically, and apparently randomly, the trainers do "interactions" with the dolphins. Often, this involves throwing balls to the dolphins who then hit them back out of the water. If you catch one of the balls, you can throw them back to the dolphins. I don't think anything has gotten my daughter more excited than "playing catch" with the dolphins - not even breakfast with Cinderella

Another big hit for her was seeing the show at the Rio hotel and catching the bead necklaces that are thrown out. The show consists of "floats" that travel along the ceiling. If you're upstairs, it's quite easy to get the attention of the performers and pretty much guarantee several necklaces. Well, at least if you have a cute kid on your shoulders. While you're there, plan on eating at the buffet. It's huge - even by Vegas standards.

Both Circus Circus and Excalibur have a floor of carnival games. I don't remember the exact details, but Circus Circus has some kind of deal where if you "buy in" for $20, the games are "buy one, get one free" or something like that. I also seem to recall that you don't actually have to spend $20, because you can cash in the unused tickets or tokens or whatever it is you get. I don't know if Excalibur has any such deal.

Most of the mega-hotels have some type of ride or attraction that kids of various ages can enjoy. MGM has lions in a glass enclosure, including a tunnel you can stand in and watch the lions running over and around you. Luxor has a couple of virtual reality rides. Bellagio has the gondola rides. New York, New York has a roller coaster. Freemont Street, south of the strip, has street vendors and performers and at night the canopy over the main walkway puts on a light show periodically.

If you get overloaded with all of that, Red Rock Canyon is a short drive out of the city (although I doubt it would be too pleasant on a summer afternoon). Hoover dam would also probably impress older kids.

We went without our 17 DD. I myself wouldn't take kids if you are staying stricly on the strip(Las Vegas Blvd).IMO Vegas is for adults. We hardly gambled, so that isn't why I say we wouldn't bring kids.

so, Dean, are you saying that it's not worth it to exchange for any of the Vegas resorts?
it's better to just pay cash $59/night at one of the resorts?
btw, (sorry if this is getting way off topic), but where do people look to find great room rates at the Vegas resorts?
