Back from OKW and I'm in!!

Just got back from WDW and our OKW stay. We had 3223 (2 bedroom) just steps away from the Old Turtle Pond bus stop, which was nice in the mornings and the evenings. We fell in love with the whole thing immediately. The room was just amazing and I just could not envision ever staying in a "regular" hotel room again while at Disney. Since I am 26 and I have a 3 year old and another on the way, I thought the club made a lot of sense for me. I made an appointment while we were at the Magic Kingdom for yesterday morning right before we left and was just totally impressed. They picked us up in front of our room and took us over to the Boardwalk. Our guide took us through the models of SSR and BCV since we hadn't seen those and she was so helpful and knowledgable. I knew a lot from this board, but the questions I did have she had the answer for. We really wanted to join and since it was the last day to get the discount, I figured there might not be a better time. We just got the minimum (150) points for right now, but I am already thinking that maybe I want more! LOL! I'll see how it goes, but my guide took my deposit and is going to mail me the paperwork, which was nice because we were done in 45 minutes and on the road to get home. Anyway...............I AM A MEMBER NOW!

One question for everyone, we talked about an October use month because we go a lot around the October-December time frame. However, I understand that I would have to start paying in May and I wouldn't get my first allotment of points until October. Is that right, and is that the smart thing to do? Or should I just ask for a June use month so that I can get my points earlier?

You don't need "to get" your points earlier. If you have an Oct Use Year and wanted to vacation before Oct, you would borrow. If you are vacationing in Oct, you can call up to 11 months in advance for a stay in October. There is a lot to learn, isn't there?

You may want to consider June because as your kids get older you may want to go in the summer when they are out of school. It really only affects cancellations and banking deadlines. It can also affect borrowing power. I have a friend who has an August use year and is in a bind because she wants to go in June or July and already has her August points totally borrowed. So she has to wait to go until after August 1 to borrow the following year.

Thanks Debbie, good points. I just thought it seemed silly to pay for four months before I even got my points, but then again, that little bit of interest is still much less than the discount I got by buying now. I may change to June, because it seems like a good idea to get them in the middle of a year.

Hey Shawn, sorry we didn't get a chance to hook up. I looked for you at the ESPN Club during the Saints game, but never saw you. Obviously, you didn't miss much anyway.

While we were waiting for ESPN to open up, my father-in-law and I went and looked at the SSR model rooms, which were very nice. While we were there, Jason Priestly (of 90210 fame) was taking the tour and we walked right by him in the hallway. I'm not a big 90210 fan, but it was cool to see a celebrity. I'm sure my wife would have freaked out. Maybe he joined too.

We also had a great trip. We split the stay between VWL and BCV, and both places were fantastic. No complaints at all. We had a dedicated 2 BR at both resorts and everything was clean, well-kept, and working properly. We got all our requests both times (non-smoking, non-handicapped, close to elevator or lobby).

Anyway ..... Welcome Home! Congrats on your new purchase, you won't regret it. Maybe we can get together at the next Saints home game and talk a little DVC.

We stayed in a 2BR at OKW last Nov. & upon returning we bought an OKW resale. We leave for our first trip to our "home" resort 1 week from today!!!!!!!! In fact we'll be on plane at this time next Friday!!

DH & I did a 4 night stay at the BWV at the beginning of Oct. in a studio. We LOVED it.

I had to laugh when I read in your post that you're already thinking of buying more points. About 5 months after we bought our resale our official Disney guide & said they had OKW points available. We added on another 25 before we even had our first trip made to any DVC on our own points. LOL

Anyway, I bet you'll love DVC. We are looking forward to enjoying it with our 3 DD's for many years to come. The memories will be priceless.
