We were at Kindani Village from Dec 21st through Dec24th. This trip we were on the 5th floor with a 2BR villa. When we were there in October we stayed on the 2nd floor in a 2BR villa. That villa had a kitchen island. The villa on the 5th floor did not.

Did Disney eliminate the island as a cost-cutting measure? Without the island, the room seems larger, however, minus the island you lose two seating/eating places.

Other than that, the staff was great! We thorougly enjoyed our stay and look forward to many more.

We will be back in March of 2010. Giving the Boardwalk Villas a try.

Happy Holidays!

Could it have been a handicapped room? I stayed in 2 one bedrooms in Jambo last year, the handicapped one did not have the island, the non-handicapped did. I also noticed that the freezer was on the bottom of the refrigerator in the handicapped room.

That is a very interesting observation. I am curious to see what the kitchen looked like. Do you have any photos?

We stayed in a 2bdrm on the 2nd floor in Novmber, so I know what it looks like with the island.

The villa you were in on the 5th floor may have been a handicapped accessible room which would acccount for there not being an island.

Can you think of any other differences with regard to your 2nd floor villa that may indicate it was a HA room?

Are you referring to the counter area? We were just there for the first time from the 18th 22nd. We LOVED it. Our room view was standard, very close to the elevator. The bus service was great. Our home is BCV and that is of course our favorite with Kidani a very close second. We would stay again in a heartbeat.

We stayed at Kidani in a 2BR on the 4th floor a few weeks ago. There was no island.

Would it make a difference if it were a dedicated 2BR vs a lockoff?

We stayed at Jambo in a 2bd and had the island but I understand that Kidani does not have the islands.

Hmmm....

Both of my 1br villas at Kidani had a counter (two stools one side, sink on other) - they were exactly lile the model rooms at the preview center.

I thought they were all the same, except for the handicap accessibale rooms. But if they were that type, the beds would have been much lower, bathrooms would be different and there would be two door peep holes. Did the OP's room have those? If not, my guess is it was a standard villa.

I'd be interested in seeing pictures.

I thought all of Kidani 2BR were Lock-offs. That Kidani and BLT had no dedicated 2BR's. We stayed in 1BR @ Kidani on the 3rd flr. Had the island 2 chairs on one side and sink on the other.

If there was no island, where was the sink????

All of Jambo is lockoffs. Kidani has both. BLT has both.

I'd like to see photos of both if available. We are going in March and this will be our first stay at Kidani. Our home is BCV and we've stayed at OKW before but so far those are the only two. I'm excited about AKV as DH said I can purchase more there if we like it as much as we like BCV. :goodvibes

I had a 1BR on the 5th floor at the end of May/beginning of June at Kidani, and the counter space/island was exactly as it is in the pictures on allears linked above.

I'm confused...I don't consider that an island. I call that a bar area. An island, IMO, would be an independently standing piece unattached to other cabinets or walls, like at Jambo House. So if they didn't have the bar area, they lost alot of cabinet and counter space also.

This is the HA kitchen.

We were at Kidani in a 2 br lockoff last summer. We had the bar/island and we were on the 5th floor.

All,

Been reading the replies. This 2BR was not a handicapped room. No special bathrooms, etc. It was just like the 2BR we had in Oct on the 2nd floor except there was no island/counter. The frig was one with a bottom freezer and it was located on the opposite wall from the sink, quite a ways away for a kitchen layout.

I will check the pictures to see if I have a couple of the room, I think I did take a few and if so will post later.

Thanks for all the replies. We still love staying there. We have rented a car for the last two trips and getting to and from the parks is easier (at least I think so) than using Disney transportation.

There are different types of HA rooms, not all have the special bathrooms. With the bottom freezer it sounds like this was one of the HA types.
