Hello All ~ We returned from GWL this afternoon!

REVIEW:
Accomodations: Whirlpool/Fireplace Room [king bed, jacuzzi in room, pull-out sofa, fireplace, coffee maker, microwave, fridge, two TV's]
Excellent room with lots of space my my family, dh, myself, dd14 & ds8. Got a $159.00 promo rate with a code I found on the GWL website.

Check In: Very busy at 12:40pm when we arrived...but it really only took about 30 minutes to check in. Our room was READY even thou check in true time is 4pm. Next time I plan to arrive at check in before 11am.

Lobby: Very Disney-esque in the way that it looked like a mini-Wilderness Lodge. Small atrium with animatronic forest creatures with nature sounds. Large fireplace, gift shop, couple of restaurants & coffee counter. Story time in the evening was busy and really only entertaining for toddlers and their parents. My kids weren't interested....once you meet Mickey Mouse, this was quaintly borish for my crew.

Waterpark: Very busy at 1pm. But not so busy at 6pm. Busy this morning at 10:30am. LOTS of great slides and pools. Definately worth another visit.

Restaurants: We didn't eat at the GWL restaurants since they were buffets and we didn't feel like buffet and read bad reviews. We did get a muffin and bagel for breakky this morning and it was good.

Off-site Restaurants: We went to Basell's on Victoria and it was sweet. 50's type diner with good food, good prices and nice staff. We had lunch at the Flying Saucer on Lundy's Lane. I was surprised how great it was. Very good food at FANTANIC prices. $2.99 for bacon & eggs, sandwiches until $7.00 including slaw and fries. Very good deal in a cute atmosphere. It reminded me of Space Mountain entrance.

All in all it was a nice trip for a great February. I'd go again. However, I'd like to try the Fallsview Waterpark too....we have been to the Americana Resort several times too.

Happy Days! Sandra

Thanks for the good info Sandra, and glad you enjoyed it! Sounds fun.

Sandra: thanks for the review. Glad you had a great time.

Regarding the fallsview waterpark (Skyline Inn traditinoal room type) , we have stayed there once (April 2007) and am going again later this month. The first time, we booked several months out, then the rate dropped twice prior to check in. I called both times and got the rate drop.

This time (for later this month), I booked in Oct. and since then the rates have just gone up up and up (doubled actually). So maybe book way ahead and then just watch the rates. It is great that you don't actually have to pay until check in and you can cancel anytime until the day before ( I think) check in without any penalty.

Congrats on your awesome rate of $159 for GWL!!! And for a suite too. That must have been amazing. I have searched and searched for a great rate for May 31 but nothing yet ($199 for the basic room with a balcony).
Maybe you could offer me some hints of how to find a great rate?:goodvibes

How were the staff there? We went shortly after it first opened and the staff were great! It was like being at Disney. I'm wondering now that they've been opened for a while if that staff enthusiasm has died out at all.

I haven't been yet either but I came across this site that is offering some nights at GWL for as low as $129 a night! It is a last minute site so up to two weeks ahead (they do have an alternate site but the prices are slightly higher) I know people that have used this site and had no problem. Sometimes the code NLOCAL still works for a great deal too.

We are heading off to Sandusky, OH at Springbreak to try the Kalahari indoor waterpark with friends so we will see how that compares.

I just tried the NLOCAL code on the niagara falls GWL website, and it works for FEb, and march..... mostly on week days, but there were rooms as low as $129... We are looking at going sometime, but I don't think that DH wants to miss any work

Hoogy ~ We went to the Kalahari in July! It's awesome! The rooms are beautiful! The waterpark is a blast! They were doubling the size.....contruction was to be done by Jan 2008. ENJOY! Sandra

We're headed to GWL on Saturday. Thanks for the review, Sandra C !

We went a few weeks ago and enjoyed it too.

You were lucky to get into your room. We got there at 12:30 and they told us to come back at 4:00 to get our room.

You can still use the water park though because they give you your waist band. So pack a swim bag and just change in the change rooms. Then go back for your room and bags after. Or in my case I didn't want to go in right aways so I waited for the room and got us all put away while they were swimming. I read a book in the lobby and explored.

Night time is not busy most people have been in all day. Great time to go after dinner.

It is busy the next morning because everyone is trying to get the last swim in before leaving. You can stay the whole day it you want, again you use the lockers. But of course we had to get moving because we are 2 1/2 hours away.
