Actually got back late Sunday, but DD's birthday, laundry, and yard work have kept me tied up.
After spending three nights at Universal's Porofino Bay, we were off to four nights at the cabins at Ft. Wilderness June 5-9. We had always thought these looked fun and since we were able to get a rate of $159, we decided to try one this year. My kids (DS-15, DS-12, DD-9, and DS-2) got a real kick out of the place. There is so much to do at Ft. Wilderness that we spent much less time at the parks than we had planned. The 2 y.o. loved the petting zoo
He rode a pony and spent the entire time yelling, "Yee-haw!"
We liked the way the woods came right up to the cabin. It was such a relaxing atmosphere. Even though I am usually totally against cooking on vacation, we did cook weiners and roast marshmallows on the grill a couple of times. The next day the ashes were wisked away and the dishes were cleaned. It was great and a real money saver
We had a car, so we didn't experience the Disney Transportation much except to catch the boat to the Magic Kingdom. The cabins are served by both the purple and orange lines so the waits were quite short. You could actually see the bus stop from our cabin (2604) and there seemed to be busses stopping constantly..
The CM's were great from check-in to departure.
On Sunday, June 9, we checked into the Beach Club for five nights. We had requested garden view with a full balcony and were given room 2579 overlooking the garden courtyard and volleyball court. We also had a pretty decent view of the lake from the balcony. The room was clean and in generally good repair. My only quibbles were a very rusted fire sprinkler in the bathroom along with rust stains on the bathroom tiles that appeared to run down from the door hinges. Also there were tons of bird droppings on the balcony railing and paint chips that had peeled of the gutters would land on the balcony.
We have stayed at the Yacht Club twice and truly found the Beach Club to have a more laid-back atmosphere with more kids to be found and generally a higher noise level.
Service was great. Any request or question we had was taken care of immediately.
Storm-Along-Bay was never crowded when we visited, possibly due to the on and off again rain throughout our stay. There does seem to be a lot less sand on the bottom than during our previous stays.
Of course, you can't beat the location. As one of the guidebooks says, "If you were any closer to Epcot, they would charge you admission!" I love the location, I love the architecture, I love the decor, and I love the landscaping. Two things I don't love are the lack of quick food, particularly in the evenings and the way the bathroom door closes so that you practically have to stand in the tub to close it
Since our AP's didn't expire until the 15th, we decided to spend one more night and got a room at Dixie Landings (Riverside). I really love that place
although I think I had forgotten about the morning rush on the coffee machines at the food court
