Well, we are back from our one nighter and here are my thoughts. First let me clarify, we live fairly close to vero and the beach is very similar, the erosion doesn't seem as bad by us though, so although we love the beach, it wouldn't effect us in the same way as someone emerging from a hideous northern winter. To us its something we see everyday. Also we didn't eat at any restaurants, so can't comment on that.
I was surprised at how unimpressive that area is when you follow the directions in the dvc book. I had read about that but still wasn't quite prepared. The resort looks very pretty and nice, the lobby pretty, not spectacular but nice. We had a 2 bedroom in builing 15 which I thought was absolutely gorgeous. Now that was spectacular! The pool gets extremely crowded but its very nice and they had a dj and lots of games for the kids. Better at night, much less crowded!! My daughter had no trouble making friends to play with in the pool. Got a metal detector... my daughter was hunting for treasure with no luck, this morning I was reduced to buying things from the giftshop and hiding them in the sand for her to find:rolleyes:
Anyway, I'm glad we checked it out. We will be back I'm sure, although not anytime soon. We prefer a little more action , but it was relaxing although I guess the pool in the daytime I couldn't call relaxing because it was just too crowded. I Also think disney should spring for a lifeguard by the ocean. For you northerners yearning for some beachtime, I can see why you would really love this place.;)

EZ...

What directions were listed in the book ? On our confirmation letter they had us going north off I-95,then east, then south on Rt 1 till we hit 510 then east over the bridge to the resort. But we noticed that shortly off I-95 you hit the junction for 510 that is much shorter to the resort but thru an unsavory section of town. Maybe DVC is sending us the long way around now.

Yes I noticed that too...its like 95 to 512 to us 1 to 510, but you do pass a junction for 510 right after you get off 95. So I either thought that 510 either curved really out of the way, or there is something there disney does not want you to see! My dad wanted to take 510 straight back to 95 on the way home, but I was chicken to try it. I figured if disney didn't want me to see it, I didn't either!!! I thought even the area on US1 looked really bad and rundown. I wonder what 510 all the way up looks like.

Well, if there was DJ, you were there on a weekend. It really changes during the week concerning crowds and is very nice. When we were there, we were surprised at how many locals there were. They wait by the gate for someone to open it and walk right in. I wonder how many folks in your crowded pool area were actually staying at the resort? I asked one large group if they were staying in the Inn or the Villa, and they reported they were just there to see a friend, but they couldn't really point out thier friend to me.

I think that on weekends they should probably move to a wristband approach as they do at SAB to deal with the problem of local pool crashers.

I drove it. It is an area where the poor migrant workers live. I believe they work the orange groves. It might be tough after dark but I think it is probably just a poor section.

We took the 510 turn off thinking it would be shorter. There are a couple of bars that wouldn't be ones that I would consider visiting, and associated traffic from those bars, in and out of the road. Next time I'll take 512 to Rt. 1. to avoid a possible fender bender, and the slow down. THe 510 shorcut wasn't a family area.

This would really tick me off, and I would have to calm myself down.
Has anyone reported people like this?

We were there for Mother's Day weekend as part of our weeklong stay. THe holiday probably added to the problem, but I struggled with being ticked off and blowing the whistle and trying to focus on my main reason for being there, calming down and spending time with my family. I did not end up reporting it at the time, but I should probably write a letter to the manager expressing concern.

Another person had one Inn room and invited at least 20 local people to join her in the pool area for mother's day. I guess that one is legitimate. They actually took our table when we happen to step away for a few minutes, even though our stuff was on the table. But it did seem to contribute to having lots of people at the pool. The next day was monday and things were much better, accept for the lady who moved our table chairs away from the table umbrella that all our stuff was sitting on and put her lounge chair underneath the table umbrella so she could have shade. I guess I was kind of surprised at how rude some people can be. I politely asked her to move. I struggel with gettin bent out of shape over incidents like these and putting a damper on the reasons we are on vacation, to enjoy and relax.

Boy, I can really relate to this statement. If you can ever figure out the equation to this problem, please share it will 'ya ? :) I try my best...but it's getting really tough.
