Back from Dolphin

We just returned from a long weekend at the Dolphin. We chose the Dolphin mainly because there was no availability in the Disney resorts other than Saratoga Springs. The great $139 rate also steered us this way.

Overall, we had a nice stay. Check in was incredibly fast (under 3 minutes!). We found Tubbi's to be convenient, although a bit pricey. There were plenty of places to eat at the Dolphin but we mainly ate off-site or at Disney.

We had a bit of a walk to our room which was 7025 but it was worth it. We had an awesome view of Spaceship earth and could watch Illuminations from our room. We did not have a balcony but the rooms to either side of us did. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable but the sheets had too much starch in them. It's really noticeable at night when you have 5 people tossing and turning! (We forgot our sound conditioner.) We requested a rollaway which took forever for us to receive (3 calls and almost 4 hours later, it arrived).

The boat launch was convenient and we rarely had to wait for a bus, they just kept coming and coming. Took forever to get to DTD as the bus stops at a total of 5 resorts on the way down. The way back wasn't too bad as we were stop #2.

If the Dolphin were anywhere but Disney, we would probably be raving about it. However, we really missed the Disney magic and we prefer to stay at a monorail resort. Next time I'll book sooner but this was a last minute decision to go.

Oh, PS...2 of the 3 mornings we were there we saw an alligator outside our room very early in the morning. Just be careful when walking the grounds near the water!

You saw an alligator!!! I've stayed at the Dolphin three times and never saw one. Was it in the "lake" near their beach?

I've never seen an alligator at the Dolphin or Swan either, but during our stay at CSR a few years back there was a huge cage/trap sitting by Lago Dorado where they were trying to catch one. A CM confirmed it when we inquired. It was a really BIG cage too!

Alligators are all around the resorts, more than you'd like to know!

OK no late night walks by the lake for me next month! :earseek:

I am glad you enjoyed your stay. We prefer the Swan but this trip it was booked so we will try out the Dolphin. Did they charge you for the roll away? And how did it fit in the room? My son and daughter don't like to sleep together and this might be an option for us. Thanks :sunny:

OMG--we walk around the Dolphin wings all the time! Where exactly did you see it? Was it big? I'd be shocked that they wouldn't try to catch it if it was close to shore. The waters are not very deep. You can actually see the bottom from the upper floor of the Dolphin (the area between the wings). YIPES!!

We love looking at those big fish from our balcony windows. :) My boys would go absolutely nuts if they got to see a gator.
