Back from our 6th stay at CSR and the first time in the newly remodeled rooms October 24 thru November 1. I had a conference at CSR from Monday thru Wednesday and then the rest of the week and weekend was family time. We did the online check-in only because I ordered a couple of surprise gifts for my DW and DD from Disney florists and when I told them we will have a late arrival time, she mentioned that there would be a very good chance the gifts will already be in the room when we arrived. We requested ground floor in the Cabanas section (never stayed in this section), when we finally checked in at 1:30am (had a battery problem on the drive down
) we went to the Online Check-in area and the CM could not find our package and had to create another one, no big deal. We were assigned Cabanas room 8257; we parked and unloaded the van. The elevators are at the end of the building closest to the parking lot and our room was a corner room
but all the way at the other end of the building, closest to the Dig Site. My DW and DD were very surprised to see they had gifts waiting for them
Disney florist did a great job. Well, four trips later we finally have all our stuff into the room.
The room was clean and still looked brand new, we really liked the new color scheme the divider doors, flat screen TV and the queen beds
, and then we started unpacking and started missing the old room a little bit. We came to the realization that the remodeled rooms were redone more for business /adults then for families. We really missed the armoire from the old room, with its 3 wide drawers and lots of storage space inside it for diapers, wipes
and then we would use the top for our cereal, plastic ware and snacks. The new dresser has 6 narrower drawers that did not hold as much as the old drawers, we ended up having a lot more clothes on hangers and I also left some clothes in my suitcase to give more room for DW and DD's stuff. I ended up making a table out of the luggage holder in the corner to place our cereal, snacks and plastic ware. I was not a big fan of the new desk either, I liked that it had outlets built into it but that was it. The old round table seemed to give us more table top room; I was able to keep my Disney binder and other paper work on it and had plenty of room for me or DW to eat breakfast with our DD. They have a desk lamp on it that sits on a big base and that took up table top space. So we ended up sliding the desk over into the corner to give us more floor space for a stroller, toys and park bags. I also disconnected the lamp and put it into the corner by the sink area. Once we adjusted to the room it was fine, just a little more messy looking
We really enjoyed the queen beds and having that extra room for sleeping and watching TV.
Mousekeeping was very good but only took the tip after the 1st night, after that the tip was still there when we got back to our room. I tried putting the money on the night stand under the This room was cleaned by card, I draped the $ over the card, I put the $ and the card on the bed, I just put the $ on the pillow, I wrote a note with the $ and still nothing.
The resort CMs were all very nice and friendly, whenever we had a question they were happy to assist us. As usual we enjoyed the dig site and pool area and our DD(5) did the morning pool ritual of starting the waters from the Mayan Pyramid and decided that she wanted to go on the water slide for the 1st time ever and then a 2nd, 3rd ..
We were a little disappointed with the staff at the Pepper Market and even Café Rix, the workers there just do not come across as they care much. At Café Rix the cooks would not acknowledge you unless you actually got their attention and told them that you wanted to order some food. This occurred every time I went there, which was about 4 times during our trip. They also need to look at redoing how the Pepper Market works, especially if you order something that they have to cook. They would tell you 10 minutes and when you went up there and it was not ready you either have to stand around and wait or go back and forth to your table. They should give out station specific buzzards to let you know your food is ready. We did find an alternative to eating outside on hot days when you got your meals to go, Rix Lounge has a seating area before you enter the bar area with some tables. So we were able to save the 10% from the pepper market but not sweat either while we ate.
On Halloween CSR had CMs giving out candy at various areas inside El Centro and Donald & Daisy Duck were there for photos. They also showed the movie Race to Witch Mountain outside at the dig site, they set it up on the sand where the volleyball court is.
The bottom line is that we had a great time at Disney and at CSR and would not hesitate coming back. CSR is still one of our favorite resorts.
